Can my muscle repair come undone or stretch 2 months post op?

Question

I am two months post op tummy tuck and wanted to see if i was still at risk of my muscle repair cheesewiring or stretching. I dont want to pop a stitch while doing strenous activity

Thank you for your question.  Assuming you have not had any wound healing difficulties, most patients can start to resume their prior activity level by 6-8 weeks after surgery. I strongly recommend you speak with your surgeon about the activities you are looking to perform so that they can clear you for those exercises, but you also need to know that if an exercise is hurting you, you probably shouldn't be performing it yet.

It would be almost impossible to disrupt the abdominal wall repair two months after and abdominoplasty. Nevertheless, follow the activity restrictions outlined by your surgeon.

Thank you for the question. In general, it would take a significant amount of pressure to “disrupt" the muscle repair after tummy tuck surgery. This event would likely be associated with significant discomfort. A change in your physical examination, such as increased swelling, bleeding, a new onset "bulge" would also be likely.

Generally speaking, abdominal wall muscle plication performed during tummy tuck surgery is quite secure; disruption is very unusual.  You will be best off following up with your plastic surgeon who will be your best resource when it comes to accurate assessment, advice, and/or meaningful reassurance.
