The number of tummy tucks performed per year by a plastic surgeon will vary with geographic location as well as interest in performing such a body contouring procedure. Certainly researching a board certified plastic surgeon well-versed in abdominal contouring procedures is recommended. Consult with two or more surgeons who you are happy with their postoperative photographs and those who you, most importantly, feel comfortable and confident with. Hello and thanks for the question.  The answer to this question varies from surgeon to surgeon.  More experienced plastic surgeons perform more than younger surgeons in their early years.  I perform between 50 to 70 a year and have been a plastic surgeon for 28 years.  Experience is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a plastic surgeon.  Other factors include certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, friendly and helpful staff, use of state-certified surgical centers and bedside manner.  Hope this helps with your question.

The average plastic surgeon who emphasizes aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery should have substantial experience with tummy tucks, often as part of a mommy makeover. I do about 50-75 per year, which is probably more than average. Experience is only one criterion for choosing a plastic surgeon however.

For a plastic surgeon who does a significant amount of abdominal work, you can expect them to perform between 1 and 3 tummy tucks per week, i.e. 50-150 per year.  If the surgeon only does one a month, they are obviously focusing on other operations in their practice.
