It's been 2 months since my TT & hernia repair surgery. My scar is very long, quite thick & red/purple. Is there anything I can do to make it better? I've been applying MEBO Scar & other silicone-based creams for well over a month now..
Answer: Plastic Surgery scars need topical therapy Cosmetic surgery procedures require a disciplined approach to scars, whether or not the incisions are placed on the face or body. In our Los Angeles plastic surgery clinic, we recommend that patients follow basic wound healing guidelines followed by the application of Plato’s Scar Serum twice daily once the skin is healed. If the incisions are prone to pigmentation, addition of Melarase PM is required. After a few weeks, the skin heals over and laser therapy is initiated to further improve scarring. Answer: Tummy tuck scar You are still early in the healing process. With time your scar will continue to change appearance.Unfortunately, it can take several months to a year for a scar to fully mature. I tell all my patients to keep their incisions out of the sun. I would recommend using kelocote gel. Best of luck

Answer: 2 months post op Tummy Tuck, how can I make the scar better? (photos) It's only been two months since your tummy tuck so your scar is still fairly fresh. It can take anywhere from one year to 18 months for your scar to remodel but you should notice your scar improving as time goes along. Until then, keep in out of the sun and consider using silicone gel sheeting such as New Gel Plus to help the healing process. ac

Answer: How to make scars better There are six ways which a scar will get better. The first is time alone as scars are very dynamic and will improve with time. Unfortunately it can take months if not years for scar to fully mature and become the way one would like them to be. The second modality is to apply pressure to the scar either with some type of garment or with pressure applied with one's finger to the scar itself without creating friction. The next modality is using scar creams. There are medical grade scar creams that are only available in physicians offices which have been shown to make scars look better sooner than they would otherwise. You can try over-the-counter scar creams but I am not convinced that they truly make a difference. The next treatment is silicone gel sheeting which is applied to scars and left in place for at least 12 hours at a time, with a single piece being able to be used for approximately 2 weeks. The next modality is injection of scars with steroids and the last option is scar revision which is excising an old scar with the hopes that the new scar will be better. Except for the scar revision, all of the other modalities take at least several months to see any noticeable improvement.

Answer: Scar Recovery Gel I have tried almost everything out there on patients over the past 20 years and in my experience I think that a relatively new product called Scar Recovery Gel is the most effective product in minimizing the appearance of scars. It is available without a prescription but usually only available through a physicians office. I will usually recommend it for all patients and have them begin applying it to a new healing scar within a week of surgery. Consult with your plastic surgeon regarding specific instructions for your particular case. Dean Vistnes.
