I had gynecomastia removal surgery 9 months ago and it seems to be coming back. I dont use steroids but i have in the past (2/3 years ago) I don't smoke pot, I sometimes drink alcohol. I am thinking of going for another surgery but I want to fix the problem beforehand. What can be the cause and how can I stop it from getting worse
Answer: Gynecomastia Dear blink9000,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. Answer: What can be the cause of gynecomastia coming back after surgery? Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your gynecomastia difficulties. If the entire gland is removed then gynecomastia can not recur, as glandular tissue can not be created. That said some glandular tissue may be left behind in order to avoid secondary issues such as nipple inversion or tethering. I would discuss your current results with your surgeon for an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. Best wishes.

Answer: Question After Gynecomastia Surgery Hello, and thank you for your question. (Keep in mind that an in-person consultation is necessary for the best advice.) The most likely cause of recurrence of gynecomastia is incomplete excision during the original procedure. (This is fairly common and is done to prevent wound healing complications, prevent vascular injury to the nipple/areola, and prevent contour deformity in the region of the nipple/areola.) Weight gain (if present) may also contribute. If you decide to pursue revision surgery it’s very important that you find a surgeon whom you are comfortable with and trust and who evaluates you in-person and tailors an individualized treatment plan for you and your aesthetic goals. Best of luck! Matthew A. DelMauro, M.D.

Answer: Recurrence of gynecomastia Most likely the cause of your recurrence is residual gynecomastia tissue left behind from the first operation. Usually it's not possible to completely remove the gynecomastia tissue completely as it may leave an unsightly contour deformity underneath your nipple-areolar complex area.
