Hi guys:) so I had a breast augmentation 5 days ago and I notice that on my breast that isn’t dropping as fast (normal, I’m aware), I can feel the edge of the implant. When poked it feels like I’m poking a piece of plastic and a shooting pain comes slightly. Is this normal? Will it go away? My surgeon is 5 hrs away so I am hesitant about going to get checked if it is normal. I have saline 390cc under muscle/under breast fold incision. Can only be felt on one side.
Answer: Feeling the implant Thank you for your question...Yes it is not uncommon for patients to be able to feel the edge of the implant, especially if they are naturally very thin or have very little breast tissue to begin with. Please see your surgeon if you are still concerned. You can learn more on our social media (Instagram and Snapchat): @realdrsix. Regards,

Answer: 5 days postop Probably wise to let your surgeon know what you are experiencing. It is likely related to the edge of the saline implant but they should be made aware.

Answer: Can feel the implant after breast augmentation Yes, I find that it is not uncommon to be able to feel a breast implant, especially if you are thin or have little breast tissue to start with. The ability to feel the implant may decrease over the first few months, so be patient. Even if it doesn’t, I have found that although the implant may be ‘feel-able’, it usually is not ‘see-able’. You won’t actually see the edge of the implant.

Answer: Breast augmentation Hello and thank you for the question. Obviously, it's hard to give definitive recommendation, without seeing pictures or examining your. As others suggested, it's way too early and it can take 3 months to see the final results. Early after breast augmentation, implants tend to sit high on the chest wall, which make the breasts look unnatural and you might be able to fee the implant edge. Over the course of next several weeks, implants drop to their final location behind the breast tissue. As they do, the bottom of the breasts will round up and the nipple-areola complexes will rotate upward. At the beginning, it's not uncommon for one implant to be at a different level compared to the other one. I would be more patient. Stay in touch with you surgeon. Answer: BA results Dear sarahha123,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast augmentation surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process at 5 days post op.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively. At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues around the implants are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides and the implants drop to their final position, you will be able to see the final result of your breast augmentation surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
