I don’t think my breast implants are sitting too high at day 3 post op. I breastfeed 3 kids for a total of 4 years so needless to say my breasts were a bit droopy. Part of my reason for implants was to fill the upper pole. So I am wondering why I need to wear this uncomfortable strap to push them down? Won’t they naturally drop and be lower because of my skin being stretched? If anything I may have needed a lift. I know some docs use them and others don’t. Wanting other opinions. Thanks!!

Answer: Do I really need to wear the uncomfortable breast band? Sometimes following breast augmentation your surgeon may utilize a spandex band that encircles the back and goes under the armpit but over the breasts. This can serve several purposes. It helps stabilize the position of the implant and can help the implant from moving upwards or also out to the sides. It also helps keep swelling down. Unfortunately, they can be uncomfortable especially if they are cutting into the armpit skin. Not everybody needs a band but it would be wise to check with your surgeon if you are finding it significantly uncomfortable in the early postoperative time. There are some tricks such as patting the armpit or using safety pins at your sides to approximate the band to the lower part of your bra to keep it from rubbing up in the armpit area. It would be wise to check with her surgeon.
