Are my breasts are too close together? (Photos)

Dear Essie614,Symmastia is a rare breast condition that occurs when soft web-like breast tissue pulls breast implants towards each other, until the breasts meet uncomfortably at the center of the chest near the sternum (the body’s midline point). Given this abnormal union, symmastia is known by many other names, including breadloafing, kissing breast implants, and the uniboob.Unfortunately, this condition causes the surrounding skin and pectoral muscles to literally lift off the breast bone as the implants are pulled together. This consequently causes pain and discomfort, as well as obvious distortion of the breasts, which can only be disguised with clothing that does not show cleavage.Based on your photos, it doesn't look like you have symmastia. If your breasts were naturally close together prior to surgery, the addition of implants will only bring more attention to their organic position , it does not seem like you have symmastia so I will not worry , additional to your concern on how they look  , its more like a persona election .

breasts are close together. It would be helpful to see photographs of your
chest prior to your breast augmentation. If your breasts were naturally close
together prior to surgery, the addition of implants will only bring more
attention to their organic position. However, you do not appear to have
symmastia, a complication in which the implant pockets are too close over the
sternum, creating a ‘uniboob’.  If you
are unhappy with the appearance of your chest, I recommend reaching out to your
operating surgeon for his/her advice and input on the possibility of a breast
augmentation revision.

It is always personal aesthetics that determine what we like and do not like. If you like your breasts you should not ask other people (including experienced plastic surgeons) for opinion. Some may argue that breast are too close? Be aware of this, especially if you sleep on your stomach. Good luck.

Thanks for your question and photos. Your question is best answered by you and you alone. If you are happy with your result that is all that really matters. If you hear opinions from one or more of us regarding your outcome, your only reassurance ought to come from the fact that you are happy. "Cleavage" can mean different things to different people. Some women's breasts are close together and very pretty, and some are far apart yet still pretty. Yours are indeed quite close together but that is neither a good thing or a bad thing.When they "meet in the middle" or even cross the midline, it is a condition called "symmastia".  If you are questioning your own result, please discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon. If you are still unsure, feel free to get a second opinion evaluation  by another experienced plastic surgeon whose aesthetic results you find appealing. In the mean time, enjoy your pretty result. Essie.   I appreciate your concern, however there is a significant difference between nice cleavage by placing the implants medially enough to maximally enjoy this phenomenon and the complication known as synmastia. This occurs when over dissection causes Medial Implant Malposition. It does not appear that you have Synmastia from your your photographs, but I would follow up with your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns. Good luck.

Thank you for your question.  It's hard to determine if your breast are too close together without seeing the before pictures.  A possible complication that can occur after a breast augmentation is something called Symmastia.  I would recommend following up with your surgeon and addressing any concerns that you may have.   Best of luck to you. 

Size is the most important aspect of my conversation with my patients prior to breast augmentation. The implant has to fit the pocket appropriately or implant malposition will occur. I use implant sizers during surgery to allow the patient to reach her goals yet have the correct size.
