Dr. Robert M. Tornambe is a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City, with over 31 years in practice. While his surgical skill spans all areas of body, breasts, and facial plastic surgery, he specializes in breast enhancement, tummy tucks, and complete mommy makeovers. As the founder, owner, and medical director of Madison Plastic Surgery, Dr. Tornambe keeps up-to-date on cutting-edge technologies in plastic surgery. In addition to performing a wide range of surgical procedures—including breast augmentation, liposuction, facelifts, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and lip augmentation—he also offers nonsurgical aesthetic services, such as Botox, thread lifts, fillers (like Juvéderm and Radiesse), and fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. Dr. Tornambe is known for his signature facial rejuvenation treatment, the Non-Surgical Makeover: a combination of Botox, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and dermal fillers to address age-related concerns, such as wrinkles, volume loss, hyperpigmentation, and more. This combination results in a refreshed, rejuvenated, and younger-looking appearance, all without the downtimes or risks associated with surgery. First and foremost, Dr. Tornambe is a physician, dedicated to each of his patient’s unique needs and individual beauty. In his book, “The Beauty Quotient Formula,” he encourages women to let go of the urge to compare themselves to unrealistic celebrity beauty standards. Instead, he invites them to “embrace those attributes that make them beautiful, and learn to accentuate them. Learn to celebrate your best features and set realistic, achievable goals regarding your own beauty,” he says. “It is OK to look like yourself and not someone else.” Guided by this empowering philosophy, Dr. Tornambe works with his patients to customize each procedure to create natural-looking results that enhance their natural beauty. Building strong relationships with his patients, with honesty and communication, are key to his practice. Dr. Tornambe embarked on his surgical training with both a general surgery residency and hand surgery fellowship training at Cabrini Medical Center in New York City. He then pursued a plastic surgery residency at University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, followed by an additional fellowship in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery with the renowned plastic surgeon Dr. G. Patrick Maxwell in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Tornambe served as chief of the division of plastic surgery at Cabrini Medical Center in NYC for almost 20 years. Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Tornambe is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He was named in New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” issue, and has appeared on the Today Show, Discovery Health, the Charlie Rose Show, NBC News, and Extreme Makeover.
Dr. Tornambe saved my life. You may ask yourself how? Well prior to my explant I was getting sick a lot. Bronchitis and respiratory problems. I also looked swollen. I came for a consultation and I loved the way he explain everything. After surgery any concerns I had he responded. Whether it was through his personal phone or work number. I am 1 year post op and I have not gotten sick and my breast look awesome. Yes, I have a scar but it beats from how I was feeling. I would recommend 100 percent.
I had a mini face lift and peel with Dr. Tornambe two weeks ago. It is still healing, but I am very pleased with the results. I also had a very successful tummy tuck surgery with Dr. Tornambe in February, 2024. Dr. Tornambe and his small staff are warm, caring and personable. A very nice environment and, even more importantly, excellent results.
I have had two cosmetic surgeries with Dr. Robert Tornambe. Last year, I had a tummy tuck. Because of a hernia/diastases repair operation that I had had at Lenox Hill Hospital about fifteen years ago, several cosmetic surgeons that I consulted did not wish to do my tummy tuck. Dr. Tornambe, however, was willing to do the surgery. He did an excellent job. I am exceedingly happy with the results. Then, two weeks ago, I had a mini face lift performed by Dr. Tornambe. I am still healing, but so far I am quite pleased with the results. He and his small staff and very warm and caring and personable.
I think this was the best decision I have ever made in my life and in the best hands of my dear Dr Tornambe I recommend Dr Tornambe 100 %.In June I made the decision to have my breasts done and I went to a consultation and I did it two weeks later He inspired so much confidence and his entire team specially Diana her manager made me feel happy.
There aren’t enough superlatives in any language to describe my experience with Dr. Tornambe and his staff. From the very first consultation to post surgery appointments, the expertise, care and attention shown by Dr. T and his staff was extraordinary. Dr. T is so honest in what can be achieved. He does not pull any punches but is so kind, warm, compassionate with a great sense of humor that puts you completely at ease. I also found his skill and philosophy on plastic surgery to be TOP NOTCH with the outcome being a totally natural look. I truly look easily 20 year's younger but do not show ANY evidence of having had plastic surgery. I would not hesitate on choosing Dr. T and his wonderful staff.
Dr. Tornambe and his Madison Plastic Surgery Team are clearly excellent in their field. I had a great experience and great results. I could not be happier. I finally look like I feel, young and vibrant. Of course at first I was hesitant since I had no experience with Dr. Tornambe's work. I am no longer hesitant, he is absolutely amazing. Thank you is not enough to this amazing team of professionals.
Dr.T and his staff has been very instrumental with my well being and healing progress during this whole journey. Dr.T and his surgical coordinator (Diana) always made time to address my every concern and for that I am thankful because I felt heard and knew I was in good hands.
I'd like to thank the stuff and Doctor Tornambe for takening care of me through the visits and procedure. The aftercare and phone call questions. I appreciate the level of professionalism from everyone. Not only felt like a doctors but more of family.
I’m absolutely happy and very satisfied with the result of Dr. Tornambe’s work! He is a great sculptor!!! He did such an excellent job that boosted my self confidence! I would go back to him for more cosmetic procedures if I have to.
This review is long overdue - what reminded me to finally officially join RS and write one is that I just returned to Dr. Tornambe for another procedure, which hopefully tells you how happy I was with my first experience. Like many people, I had always been bothered by my chin and felt it didn't match my overall physical condition. When I finally felt able to do something about it, I set up consultations with three doctors. I was looking for excellent reviews/past results, reasonable pricing (I was not bargain-shopping but I definitely had a 'ceiling' I wouldn't have felt comfortable exceeding), and… for lack of a better term, vibes - this was going to be my first cosmetic procedure ever (I've never even done botox, fillers, etc.) so it was critical for me to feel comfortable. From the first moment, I felt the most at ease with Dr. Tornambe and his team. They are professional but never cold; knowledgeable but never intimidating; friendly but never overbearing. There was no pressure at all in the consultation, either to increase the scope of what I wanted done or to decide/book right away. My original appointment was for April 2020 and well, we all know what happened! Dr. Tornambe's office kept the lines of communication open and as soon as they were cleared to begin scheduling again, reached out to see if I would like to move forward or if I would be more comfortable waiting longer. We settled on a date in July 2020. I won't detail the COVID safety measures as they're less relevant for anyone reading now but, I was very satisfied at the precautions taken. For my chin liposuction, I chose local anesthesia only and would definitely recommend it unless you are very frightened at the idea of being awake and aware during your procedure. General anesthesia was much more scary to me and would have complicated the overall process as there would have been bloodwork and other preliminary testing required, no food or drink from midnight the night before the procedure, etc. Dr. T clearly marked the areas he would be working on and had me review/OK. I had several quick shots to numb the locations where he would be making incisions - nbd if you are OK with shots in general. Once that numbing took effect, he made a small cut behind each earlobe and one on/just behind the point of my chin (I felt nothing, as intended) and pumped in fluid to numb the area entirely. After ~20 minutes to let this take effect, he did the actual suctioning. It is a WEIRD feeling, you know something is inside your skin and you can HEAR it sort of squeaking(???) back & forth so your brain is telling you it should hurt, but the most I felt was just kind of a pressure sensation. It was unnerving, but Dr. T checked in with me frequently and would let me know how things were progressing (e.g. "that's it for area X, I'm moving to area Y now" or "just a few more minutes and we're done"), which really helped. The procedure itself was pretty quick, maybe 15-20 minutes? so I didn't have to be nervous for long. Getting me cleaned up, wrapped up, and on my way also felt very quick! This was another reason I was happy with local anesthetic - I really just wanted to get home and settled in asap, and with local I felt ready to be on my way almost immediately (they still had me sit tight for a while to make sure, of course). I asked my last few questions about aftercare and that was it! The team had called in a prescription for pain meds to my local pharmacy a couple of days before so that I could fill it in advance, which I was grateful for - I definitely COULD have managed a trip to the pharmacy on my way home but I was looking pretty crazy even under my face mask so was glad I didn't need to. The hardest and most uncomfortable part of my recovery was wearing the headwrap continuously! I will say, now that I've been back, the current ones are much more comfortable. The 2020 version was basically a set of stiff bandages and it was super uncomfortable especially after the first day or so. Overall the pain was very manageable - pretty sure I didn't even need the full number of doses prescribed - but if I ever let the meds wear off too much those first couple of days I did feel like I had been punched in the throat (the wrap did not help that sensation either). I would get light-headed if I touched the swollen areas - not from pain, but from the sensation of "wrongness" that my face/chin kind of wasn't where I expected it to be? I'm not describing it well. But this went away after the first few days, as the swelling started to recede. I did feel some weird texture in the underside of my chin, like ridges, but reading indicated this was normal. I massaged as much as I was able and eventually this went away (not exactly sure when! It took a long time. It was never visible, just something I personally could feel). I personally would not have been comfortable going back to work in-person on Monday after having this procedure on Friday. Overall physically I would have been up to it, and I don't think the swelling was noticeable to anyone but me by then, but I was still pretty bruised and, due to the aforementioned lightheadedness, would have had a hard time applying makeup to cover. Luckily I was able to work remote so didn't have to worry about it, and felt fine otherwise. At 1 week after, the swelling was basically the equivalent of my "before" condition and there was barely any bruising left. (See pics) At 3 weeks after, there was still enough swelling that I didn't see much change yet; this is normal! Bruising was long gone by then. (See pics) At 11-12 weeks after I would say my results were basically "final". (See pics) And finally, a few pics from now (2 years later) so you can see how things are looking in the long term! Overall, I can't even tell you how much of a difference this relatively small change has made to my self-image. I will never have Keira Knightley's jawline, nor was I trying to or led to expect it, but I feel like I can finally see MY jaw/chin, like how I picture myself in my head, and it feels so much more in balance with the rest of me. My weight fluctuates and I do notice a double chin when I am heavier - however, 1) it NEVER approaches the level it was before, and 2) it's possible this is more of a fluid retention thing than fat, because it's also the first to go when I lose a bit of weight, whereas before the chin was ALWAYS there regardless of whether I was heavier or lighter. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Tornambe; again, I think the fact that I'm now a repeat client pretty much says it all!
Hello Karina, Symmastia usually occurs as a complication from breast augmentation when the pocket for the implants is over-dissected medially, eliminating the gap between the lower portion of both breasts. Your photos do not demonstrate Symmastia, and it appears that you are an excellent candidate for breast augmentation. Come see me or another board certified plastic surgeon in our area to explore the best options for you. Best of luck.
I appreciate your concern and while physical exam is optimal, your photos demonstrate that you would most likely benefit from lip reduction surgery. The procedure is done in the office, under local anesthesia, and it takes about one hour. Recovery is usually one week, as postop, the lips are quite swollen. Come see me or another board certified plastic surgeon in our area to explore the best options for you.v
I appreciate your concern, because size does matter when seeking a natural looking result in breast augmentation. I ask my patients to bring in photos of breasts the size they desire, because there can otherwise be confusion because B or C cup can vary greatly by brassiere manufactures! I also utilize the implant in the bra technique, with several different implant sizes with a tighter fitting T-shirt to get an idea of what you will look like. Finally, I prefer to meet with my breast implant patients at least twice before surgery, so I am confident that I know exactly what her desires regarding shape and size are. I then have several sized implants in the patient's desired range available in the OR to allow me to tailor the operation to fit her needs. Be certain your surgeon understands your desires and you should do great as this operation carries a very high satisfaction rate. Come see me or another board certified plastic surgeon in our area to explore the best options for you.. Good luck!
It sounds like you are a candidate for a Mini-Facelift. My favorite technique is the MACS short scar Mini-Facelift. Developed in Europe, it is the ideal approach for the younger patient, not ready for a full facelift, or patients who desire a less invasive procedure with a shorter recovery time. It addresses both the mid face area (especially the jowls) as well as the neck, if needed. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to explore the best options for you. Good luck
I appreciate your concerns Alexa however I am not sure you are a candidate for a mini facelift as you appear fairly young. In person examination would be needed.Sometimes less complicated procedures like micro liposuction of the jawline, neck and lower face can achieve desired results. On the other side of the spectrum fillers may also be an option. Come see me or another board certified plastic surgeon in our area to explore the best options for you. Good luck.
