Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. In case of rhinoplasty surgery, the surgery procedure should be accordingly planned for your ultimate goal of surgery result. The most important thing is the final result should be balanced to your face. The surgeon should consider your current condition and then will make a decision for the size of the silicone implant. It means that it depends on your basic condition. And then further surgery procedure such as shortening bridge and tip surgery would be recommendable to make the balance. Thank YouFrom. Thank you for your question. There are number of ways to augment the dorsum. Although silicone is one way it tends to be easily exposed over time. A better alternative would be to consider using cartilage in order to provide the look that you are after.Best wishesTheodore T. Nyame MD
First off, cartilage over silicone in most Asian rhinoplasty cases. Silicone tends to show sometimes in thin skin. It can be a good option in thicker skin in some cases though.Second, despite us leaving helpful comments we can't help much without some photos. In any case, asking for a tall bridge can make a nose look a bit long especially if your face is shorter, round, or more square shaped.Best of luckChase Lay, MD
Please reconsider having a silicone implant placed in your nose. It is always best to use cartilage and tissue from within your own body to help avoid the complications of infection, migration, extrusion, etc. Using your own cartilage can achieve a more natural appearance that is balanced with the rest of your face. Please consult with a board certified specialist who can assist you with achieving the results you seek. 3-dimensional computer imaging can also help you visualize what you may look like afterwards and serve as an important communication tool with your surgeon.
You will find that most doctors in the US prefer to use cartilage rather than actual silicone implants for several reasons, but the main ones being:1. Decrease chance of infection2. Decrease chance of the graft extrusion3. More personalized size and shape of the graft with cartilage
I exclusively use autologous cartilage and bone in performing Asian Rhinoplasty. Silicone can be useful in augmenting the nasal height however it is associated with complications. Best to see a specialist rhinoplasty surgeon to help you guide your decision making. Hope this is helpful.
Silicone implants to the nose should be discouraged. Your own cartilage is a better choice. We are unable to tell if a 2 mm implant will create a significant change in your appearance without photos or an examination.
Hi,Silicone nasal implants work great and are very safe in put in the right way. Even 2mm can make a difference for bridge contour and height. Silicone implants are the most used implant used in the body including breast, chin, jaw and cheek. Silicone nasal implants can extrude or look bad if they are not put in properly. Cartilages grafts can also be used to augment 2mm of height but its difficult or impossible to harvest enough cartilage to get the right 3 dimensional size and shape for augmentation.Best,Dr.S.
Hello,It is very difficult to see what you are describing. It is unlikely your rib graft has resorbed. It might be swelling, but it is certainly not visible in your photos.Best of luck!
What you are describing is called a 'Reduction Rhinoplasty'. This can be accomplished and if done well with a conservative technique the nose will hold its shape very well without the need for adding any cartilage. RegardsDr. J
Many of our Asian patients request augmentation of the nasal bridge and tip. In general i find cartilage to be strong enough to augment the nasal tip but not thick enough to augment the bridge. For the bridge I recommend a pre formed Gortex implant. These are soft, very smooth and have a very...
