Voluma injections in cheeks resulting in angular, gaunt looking face. Is this just swelling?

Question

I had Voluma injected in the cheeks and Juvederm in the nasolabial folds today (7 hours ago). I’m currently feeling kind of unhappy with the results of the Voluma. My face is looking angular and gaunt from certain angles. I had a relatively full face prior to the Voluma injections. Someone please tell me this is just post injection swelling and my new Cruella Deville cheekbones will blend themselves in over the course of a few weeks....

Post injection swelling is completely normal and something to be expected. Results will continue to get better and it takes around two weeks for the filler to be settled in. If you're having concerns, call the office you visited and ask for a follow up in about a week. The injector can give you a massage and either add more to even it out or take out some if you feel it is bothering you. Juvederm brand is a great filler, it was a good choice. I wouldn't get discouraged just yet. Best of Luck.

Unfortunately, it is too early to make an accurate assessment.  I usually tell patients to wait 2-4 weeks before deciding how to proceed.  That being said, you should express your concerns to your injector.  He/she will be able to tell you if they think it is normal swelling.

There normally is some degree of swelling after a Voluma injection and this will affect the appearance. It can take 1-2 weeks to get a better idea of what your true results will be.  If you are not satisfied with your treatment after this time, you should discuss this issue with the physician who treated you.

Swelling and asymmetry immediately after injections are common. You need to wait until the filler fully settles before taking any further actions. However, if you experience severe pain, numbness, etc you should contact your provider right away. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.

It is too soon to judge the results from your treatment. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for the Voluma to settle and the swelling to resolve. Give it some time. If you are still unhappy with the results at that time you can have it dissolved with hyaluronidase. Good Luck!
