Does Juvederm Voluma dissolve completely (on its own) after time?

Question

My face is a bit asymmetric, also bone structure-wise. To equalise it I got Juvederm Voluma injected in the smaller side (in the upper and lower cheeks). 6 ml! My face looks much more symmetrical now. BUT when I smile it looks terrible, as the cheek looks far too big and pumped up. Even now, 15 months later. My question is: does Juvederm Voluma dissolve completely on its one after time? It is said so, but I also read that this is not true. I rather wait than having it removed with hylase.

Thank you for your question. Voluma is hyaluronic acid and will break down over time by your body. The product is designed to last up to 2 years. Vitrase and Hylenex will break the product down quicker if desired.

HA fillers like Voluma are gradually metaboloized by the body.  Different fillers have different longevity.  Voluma results can often be seen for two years, or sometimes longer.  If you would prefer, you can have the product dissolved with hyaluronidase.

The down, and upside, of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like Juvéderm Voluma are that they are NOT permanent. Voluma is the longest lasting of this type of filler at up to 2 years. Metabolism, age, how much you exercise, sun exposure, & facial movements all play a part in how long fillers last for each individual. If you aren't happy yet would like to avoid having it dissolved with Hylenex, know that it will eventualy go away with time. In the future, start with one or two syringes at a time and build from there, that way you can ensure that you're happy with how your face looks at rest, and smiling :)

Voluma will absolutely go completely away on its own. Hyaluronidase will speed it up significantly. There is no reason not to use it. Your natural hyaluronic acid has a half life of 24 hours and is constantly being replenished

All HA fillers will eventually be degraded by the body. However, this can be much longer than 1 year in certain areas and in certain people. It sounds like the filler was injected too superficially and that is why smiling is abnormal. I would have absolutely no hesitation to get treated with hyaluronidase. I prefer Hylenex. There are no side effects with this form and I feel that the negative feedback on Realself is overblown.
