hello. There are many factors to consider before undergoing a tummy tuck. To be completely safe- your blood count and chemistries as well as glucose need to be normal A preop ekg is also important in many cases It is wise to get your medical history in order prior to surgery
Tummy tucks are elective procedures so it's imperative that your are medically optimized prior to your procedure. Standard labs include blood counts, chem panels and coagulation panels (how your blood clots). Abnormalities in these labs can potentially cause you to be at increased risk from either the surgery itself or from anesthesia. Examples include anemia (low blood levels), abnormalities in your kidney or liver function tests, or increased bleeding risks. I would recommend talking to your surgeon or primary care doctor. Often the first step is to repeat the labs as there can be daily variation or potentially lab error. If there is an abdnormality, please talk to your medical providers.
Abdominoplasty is a purely elective operation. Every surgery has risks so it is very important to try to reduce your risk as much as possible. Every patient has a past medical history and I let that determine which lab tests need to be evaluated. The anesthesiologists need to make sure that you are not anemic or pregnant. If you have liver, heart, kidney, or pancreas disease, we need to evaluate lab tests to determine of there are additional problems which may occur during or after surgery. Certain lab tests might be important for you primary care doctor, but they may not be too important in the immediate peri-operative time frame. If you get denied for surgery by your plastic surgeon, it's usually for a very good reason. We want you to have a good and healthy outcome.
Hello and thank you for your question. Thebest advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Patient safety must always be the number one priority for your surgery. Pre-operative medical clearance from your primary physician and lab clearance is an important step prior to surgery. Lab clearance will depend on your individual health and type of surgery you are having. Make sure you specifically lookat before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgeryperformed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The mostimportant aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommendthat you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon whocan evaluate you in person.Best wishes and good luck.Richard G. Hi there and thank you for your question. It is important for patients undergoing elective cosmetic procedure to be in optimal health and cleared by their medical doctor before surgery. Each surgeon will have his/her own specific requirements that must be met but medical clearance will often include most basically: bloodwork, an ekg, a brief history and physical from your doctor, and a letter of medical clearance. There are various reasons, health conditions, etc. that can cause abnormal bloodwork results. Your safety is the primary concern of your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and if your bloodwork comes back abnormal he/she might recommend postponement of your surgery until further workup has been performed. I hope that this helps and I wish you the best!
Hi. Before any surgery the patient must be studied to make sure of her level in the Caprini Scale of Risks. Blood labs, torax X rays, EKG, cardiological evaluation, physical examination, ... take place before the surgery to make sure the patient is low in the scale of risks, the sole purpose is to prevent complications that may endanger patients health, live and recovery.Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (International)Member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Blood values outside the normal parameters indicate heightened surgical risk and/or medical issues which need to be addressed. Disregarding such results would be a deviation from the standard of care. For example, anemia, slow clotting times, elevated blood sugar, to name a few, are classic examples of underlying medical problems. Anesthesia providers also have objective standards for cases they will decline. Best wishes.
it is elective surgery and your blood tests need to be normal. there are a million reasons why they could be abnormal. Get the tests done and then ask him if there are any concerns. People getting TT should be in good health.david berman md
The best, most effective prevention of blood clots after surgery is to walk. Any movement of the calf muscles keeps the blood flowing. If you find yourself resting in bed longer (due to nausea, exhaustion, etc.), you can do toe-up exercises, or better yet, draw the alphabet in the air with your ...
If you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck and your Crohns is under good control you most likely could have your procedure. You would need clearance from the gi doctor and another consideration is being possibly being able to hold some of the Crohn's medicine in the post op period to...
Thank you for your question. Reverse tummy tucks are often done when patients already have under-breasts incisions from a previous breast reduction or breast lift, yet can be done as a primary procedure. It addresses better the upper part of the abdomen, above and around the belly button. The...
