I'm considering lower blepharoplasty and know that I won't be able to drive myself home after the procedure but I don't have anyone to take me home (single, kids live in other states, and my one local friend doesn't drive). Would I be able to use Uber/Lyft/etc. afterwards or do doctors have an issue with this.

Answer: Would I be able to use Uber after lower blepharoplasty? No, in our practice, lower blepharoplasty is performed under general anesthesia, and you will need a caretaker to be responsible for you after the anesthesia, since she would not be able to drive yourself back to the office if there an issue. You will need to either pay for a service to watch you, or have a family member or friend take care of you for the first 24 hours after a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia.

Answer: Ride service after surgery Most facilities will not recommend taking a rideshare service when being under the influence or after sedation from a medical procedure. Most people want to check you out to someone you familiar with. It is also inappropriate for the driver of services to be responsible for someone after they’ve had surgery. and are under the influence of sedation. I suggest you ask your provider, but you should probably plan on either having a medical transportation company help you or getting someone you know. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
