I am 5 days post op and this was placed after my expander that was in place post mastectomy. The scar is across the area tha is flat, so I don't know if that is what is causing it to look not very shapely. It's flat across the top and a little uneven along the bottom. Will this eventually work itself out?
Christie,
You are very early post op and patience is key. Without photos it is hard to be certain what you are describing as flatness. Reconstructed breasts tend to be flatter than a natural breast. In my hands it is impossible to get a conical "spouting" breast with expanders and implants. A much more natural shape can be achieved with a TRAM flap. Keep your follow up appointments and express your concerns with your surgeon. Good luck.
I recently(2 weeks ago) had my expanders exchanged for implants. I am so unhappy. My left breast is higher and larger than my right. My PS told me I need to wait at least 6 weeks. The three things that are so upsetting are they are misshapen, uneven height and different sizes! Help! When is it reasonable to have a revision and how is it that the same size implant has yielded two different sized breasts? Thank you...
Last year I had a mastectomy due to multiple malignant phyllodes tumors. Immediate implant reconstruction surgery took place. I underwent 31 days of radiation therapy. Now, I am experiencing sharp, deep pain, and extreme rigidity. I have been informed by my plastic surgeon that I am experiencing capsular contraction, and because radiation further compromises the remaining tissue, is it impossible to remove the capsule. Is this true, or is their hope? If so, are there experts in this area?
