Will my Chin Look More Defined if I Combine Chin Liposuction with a Neck Lift?

How common is it for patients to have both a neck lift and chin liposuction done?

A: Avoid liposuction of the neck especially in the submental area.

Liposuction in the neck can be very hazardous as mentioned in some other posts. Fat should be removed under direct vision vision because one can never be sure where the fat is. The fat can be superficial or deep to the platysma muscles. Liposuction is a blind technique and cannot address this in a controlled way. Necklift surgery allows direct visualization of the anatomy and removal of the fat by direct excision in a very precise fashion. The Necklift also allows the muscle sling to be reconstituted and to give a nice smooth appearance to the neck without excessive fat removal. Smart liposuction is definitely not a smart option for the neck and some of the pictures that are available on the Internet are very early results and do not show the scarring and the irregularity that can occur with this technique.

In conclusion I would say that if liposuction is used it should be as an adjunct in a very limited fashion, but preferably the fat should be removed by direct excision in the neck rather than liposuction in most cases.

What is a Laser Neck Lift?

a doctor near me has a special offer for $999 "laser neck lift". before i call the office, what should i know about laser neck lifting. is it effective? safe?

A: Laser Neck Lift is Smartlifting Technique

The term laser neck lift has been used to describe tissue tightening by the use of an external laser and more recently the use of an internal laser first FDA approved in 2006.  Because the implementation of new technology varies from practice to practice knowlege of some of the new laser assisted procedures may be lacking.  In 2008 we introducted Smartlifting to AAFPRS, ASPS and IMCAS plastic surgery conferences.  This uses a fiberlaser under the skin to tighten skin and shrink fat.

It also helps reduce bleeding during face lift surgery.  We have completed close to 500 procedures and are training more plastic surgeons in these techniuqes many of which will be published in Neck Rejuvenation our book which will be released this fall.  A specific neck lift protocol now includes some internal laser combined with traditional platysmaplasty techniques and is highly effective in well selected patients,

How Long Before Neck Lift Stitches Are Dissolved?

I had Neck Lift and Blepharoplasty, and I've been on 3 different types of antibiotics for 30 days due to a swollen stich in my lower jaw area. It's still red, swollen, and bruised. It's not necessarily painful because I am numb. I'm afraid that my body won't dissolve the stitch and it will poke through. How long does it take for a stitch to be dissolved in the body?

A: Not all stitches dissolve

Sutures used in neck lift procedure may me permanent sutures so the dissolving issue may not apply to your question.  If your sutures dissolve the usual time frame can be 1 to 6 months or so for the most common dissolvable sutures.
