Preventing PIH After Fraxel Restore or Repair

Have there been any statistics released on the percentage of patients that end up with PIH after Fraxel Restore or Fraxel Repair? Is there anything that can be done either prior to Fraxel or after that can reduce PIH? Does PIH occur more in patients getting restore versus repair? I know that there are creams that can be used if PIH occurs but what if anything can be done to prevent it in the first place?

A: The best thing to do is to prevent with Retin A and Obagi program prior to procedure

While there are many reasons for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, the easiest way to prevent it is to pre-treat with Retin A and the Obagi System. The Obagi system has hydroquinone in it, which alone can help, but doesn't help as much as when it is in the Obagi program.

The Retin A is always a help and is incorporated within the Obagi system if you purchase that.

Additionally, it is really important to make sure you are the right person for these types of treatments. If you are darker than average or if you are a sunlover, then neither of these treatments are probably right for you as you will probably have problems after them.

Good luck!

Fraxel Re:store or Fraxel Re:pair for Rosacea?

I am a 19-year-old white female who has tried everything from topical medication to oral antibiotics, microdermabrasions and chemical peels. Just recently heard about this Fraxel treatment and I'm wondering which version works best for rosacea?

A: How about neither?

If you have a doctor who is pushing this on you, you need to go elsewhere! None of these lasers are effective for this problem and can actually cause damage. It used to be thought that this type of laser treatment might help rosacea. We now know better, but it sounds like you are hearing some bad information.

On the other hand, IPL is fantastic for that and would be a great adjunctive tool to medications if you wished. Good luck!

Which Among Fraxel Lasers Works Best for Surgery Scars?

Which among Fraxel Restore, Fraxel Repair and Fraxel Repair "Lite" will give the best results for surgical scars?

A: Maybe neither! It depends on what type of surgical scar it is and where it is

Each scar is different, so to ask which laser is taking out the part of medicine that is most important. Additionally, with the advent of people in this field who know very little other than how to write a check for an expensive laser (with payments that come every month), there is now an incentive for that person to sell you on a laser for something that might be just as easily be treated with time/waiting or a simple injection of a steroid.

In my office, I use this laser very rarely for scars from surgery on the face and it works quite nicely. It has to be performed within about 8 weeks of the surgery or the procedure is worthless, so if your surgery was a longer time ago than that, don't even consider it.

Also, make sure you go to a dermatologist or board certified cosmetic surgeon and hopefully one who is known for their ethics or you may have something done that is unnecessary and expensive. By the way, it usually costs about $300 to $900 depending on the area and preparation.

Good luck!
