I was wondering if its possible 2 have my implant crown replaced for a larger size 2 create a even smile? Granted, the implant was done over 14 years ago. For the mot part I've been happy with it. However, as time went on I started noticing a decrease in my smile, giving me a collapsed looked on one side. I was hoping someone can explain why and what can be done? Although on the other side, I have a much larger crown from a root canal done in 1991, I would much rather keep it in its place. Thx
You can most definitely replace implant crowns. If it was done 14 years ago, you need to ensure you can track down the initial paperwork on th eimlant system used (if you dont already have it) so that your current dentist can get a new crown made. It si possible that only a crown needs to be fabricated but you must realize that something called an abutment may as well be required. It is th epiece that connect the implant to the crown.. Your dentist will need to evaluate this. Please be prepared when going to your dentist so as not to slow down your progress.
Is there a big difference between crows and veneers other than price? How much more costly is it?
The difference between a crown in a veneer are usually in the amount of tooth that needs to be prepared and as well the thickness of the porcelain. Covers the entire surface of the two whereas a veneer only covers the front and bottom portion of the tooth. A veneer is much more conservative than a crown and when possible veneers should always be considered. A crown is more commonly referred to as a "cap". Either came a man of all porcelain but crowns sometimes are made out of porcelain and gold.
I can see the doctor in two days only because it's a weekend. Can I just wait two days and not to put it back until I see my dentist or I have to glue it with the temporary cement from the pharmacy?
If your temporary crown cam eoff then YES you need to cement it back into place. It will only go on one way. But you must get it dow the entire way. Clean out what is on th einside then place temporary cement in th ecrown. You can get temporary crown cement in any drugstore. Then put the temporary back on your tooth and press firmly. You may also want to bite down to ensure it is completely seated on the tooth. There are a few reasons why we like to keep th etemporary in place such as - protection of the tooth, prevent sensitivity to the tooth, and to keep the other teeth next to the tooth from drifting which will make the permanent crown not to fit. An alternative to this type of treatment is to seek out a dentist that can create a permanent crown in one visit such as with Cerec. It is technology that can allow a dentist to fabricate a crown in one visit so you do not have to wear a temporary crown nor do you have to return to the dentist to have the crown fit and cemented.
