Is It Normal To Breakout In Painful Acne After Laser Resurfacing?

I had Laser resurfacing 2 weeks ago and am experiencing what I can only call as painful acne (I have never had any acne issues before) around my mouth and eye areas that do not seem to be getting any better. I also have swelling of lower part of my face and wanted to find out if this in normal or anything I should be concerned with?

A: Acne post laser skin resurfacing I am not sure what type of laser treatment you had however most of the time after laser treatments you are given an ointment that helps occlude the skin surface. These ointments vary surgeon to surgeon and may be petroleum based and are very greasy. It is common to see small breakout areas but not acne or painful. Do you have any history of cold sores or herpes? If so you need to be put on an anti herpetic medication such as valtrex. In the preoperative screening phase this is a question we ask all patients because the laser can cause an outbreak. We pre-treat those patients with valtrex three days prior to surgery and then post operative for a week. I did a full facial laser on my wife a few months ago and she used aquaphor instead of one of the heavier ointments due to being prone to breakouts and then switched to a good moisturinzing cream. You should not have a lot of swelling left after two weeks. In most patients the swelling dissipates with in the first week completely. I would make an appointment with your surgeon as soon as possible for a better diagnosis of your problems. You should also be put on a good skin care regime. We have an aesthetician full time in the office and she places the laser patients on a good skin care regimen before and after the laser treatments. Best regards!

Misinformation Concerning ECO2 Laser and Malar Bags?

I'm 42 and about to undergo laser resurfacing of my lower eyelids to improve some crepiness of the skin. My surgeon uses the eCO2 laser, which brings me to my question. I've read a few posts from patients expressing concern that this particular laser caused damage to their Malar Bags.Is this a complication that is more likely with a full face resurfacing procedure,or is it a complication to be concerned about at all? Looking for a clarification on the topic.

A: malar bags require surgery, laser will help improve skin texture

If you have malar bags under your lower eyelids, you may likely need surgery to remove or reposition the fat in order to improve the contour. If you also have excess skin, some of the skin may also need to be removed. A laser can help tighten the skin of this area and can work-if you only have some mild loose skin. Sometimes the combination of laser and surgery is the best approach. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for more information on this topic.

Best wishes,

Should I Be Monitor with a Blood Pressure Machine

I have a fear of getting my blood pressure check, it makes my heart race. I watched someone die by looking at blood pressure reading. I am thinking about having laser resurfacing done under the eyes and above the mouth with just local injection. I have ask the doctor not to put me on the blood presure machine while he did my laser. He said he didnt see why I would have to have it because I was just having local,I might take an ativan maybe before the laser. would yall think this is safe to do?

A: Should I Be Monitor with a Blood Pressure Machine

We always use total monitoring of patient's vital signs when we do laser resurfacing, however, these are done when it is deep laser treatment and usually under sedation or anesthesia. For more superficial treatments, a pretreatment vital signs should suffice.
