When I was younger my ears appeared to be large and protruding. Due to this I still see it this way despite my parents telling me I grew into them. I have wanted an otoplasty for a few years now since learning what it was, however when I tell people about my interest in this surgery they think I’m being ridiculous and ‘don’t need it’. Do you think I should go ahead with an otoplasty?

Answer: Are you unhappy with your appearance? This decision is something that you should make. If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your ears, then otoplasty may help reduce their size and projection. However, you should be aware that like with any surgery, otoplasty does come with its own set of risks. If you think that the benefits outweigh these risks, then please see a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in otoplasty for a consultation.

Answer: Otoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Based on your photograph, you may benefit from an otoplasty. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G.
