For how many hours do you have to wear the bandage after an otoplasty? Can you remove it for just a few minutes?

Hi, monday i had my otoplasy and everything went well, the doctor said i have to leave the bandage around my head for 48 hours and after that just gently wash the hair. After the 2 days I have to wear the bandage every night for a week. Is the advice correct? I still wear the bandage during the day because on the internet they say you have to wear it for a week..

Each surgeon has their own post-op instructions. It would be best to follow your surgeon’s since they’re more familiar with your situation.

Hello,Thank you for your question. Each doctors' post op protocol is different. For my patients who underwent an otoplasty for correction of prominent ears with developed by me the Flap Technique, I recommend wearing the bandage for first three days and after that for two weeks at nights.  To find out more please click on the attached link.Best Regards

Thank you for your question. I usually tell my patients to remove the bandage the next day and gently wash the hair and let water rinse over the incisions. After that they can either put on a bandage again or a head band. It´s important to shower ever day. I make my patients wear a bandage or the head band for 2 weeks at night after surgery, during the day it is only for 1 week. But you should mainly follow your surgeon´s advice and follow his postoperative care instructions.

Hello, 
Typically the bandage serves two main purposes: 1. to reduce swelling and possible hematoma 2. reduce the possibility of accidental trauma causing the sutures to rupture. It doesn't hurt to remove the bandage as instructed, but consult with your surgeon and follow their directions on what to do after the bandage is removed.
