Juvederm Ultra Smile vs Juverderm Volbella for thin lips?

This is a good question! There are great products that can be used for lip enhancement. Hyaluronic Acid fillers are great products and my first option due to the safety profile and physical characteristics. In my experience Juvederm Ultra XC and Restylane L are great products for lip volumization. Keep in mind that sometimes it may take a combination of fillers to achieve the best results. Volbella is great for contouring and surface improvement, but as you noticed, not the best for lip augmentation. I would state, however, that much more important than the product you use is the experience and clinical eye of the injector.  I do a lot of injection trainings for other surgeons and the results are dependent on injection skills and experience.  Best, Dr Miotto

Juvederm Ultra Plus is made with the same material as Juvederm Ultra, but has greater viscosity. We prefer using this filler when the patient requires structural change to the vermilion border or cupids bow. Due to the characteristic of this filler we are able to achieve an “Angelina Jolie” look that has become a trend in younger patients.  

Juvéderm Ultra is a good option. I also like to use Vollure on the lips. It is the latest filler from Juvéderm and gives a bit of structure to think lips. The right filler is really going to depend on your needs and your anatomy, but at least you have choices.

Both Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Volbella are approved for use in the lips. Though not approved by the FDA, Juvederm Vollure can also be used in the lip. Each has a different place in lip rejuvenation. Ultra and Vollure can provide bulk and fill voids from fat loss about the lip. They can also eliminate many of the lines by proping up the tissues and, thus, stretching the tissues and removing many of the lines. Ultra is the stronger plumper but Vollure does it without any water swelling. Ultra lasts about 10-12 months in the lip. Vollure lasts about 18 months. Volbella is the product I use for finesse to provide final subtle improvement. It also can fill residual lines. It lasts about 12 months. Make sure you see someone with significant experience with the lips. By the way, there is no such product as "Ultra Smile."
