It may be wise to assess whether you have a true allergy to Juvederm that caused your previous reaction, but in reality certain Juvederm formulations (typically Ultra Plus) will be expected to cause significant swelling in the first several days and may not be ideal for lip augmentation. They are often used to allow for a more long lasting result than other lip fillers have provided in the past. There are some new formulations now available which will last longer but without the significant swelling seen with Juvederm Ultra Plus. You can certainly take Benadryl if you wish, and I always recommend ice for the first 24-48 hours after injection, but time (7-10 days) will usually resolve the issue and things will soften nicely. Either way, discuss this concern fully with your provider, who should be able to offer good explanations of the options available and how best to meet your desired goals. Good luck!
Pretreatment with Benadryl and oral Bromelain and Bruise Balm can reduce swelling. It is best to try another filler next time, i.e. another brand.Best
I would first encourage you to find out if you have an actual allergy to the Juvéderm. Lip augmentation with fillers is always going to result in swelling. Certain fillers cause more swelling than others so you might think about trying a different filler. Pre-treating with Benadryl can also help.
Lips are a very sensitive area and can definitely swell after filler treatment. This can also be the result of the injection technique. Benadryl and ice before and after treatment can help. In extreme cases, a few days of steroid pills can quickly resolve severe swelling. As with all cosmetic treatments, especially when it comes to fillers, the skill of the doctor is of utmost importance. Don't trust your face to just anyone! Consult with an expert in facial aesthetics to maximize your results while minimizing side effects. You'll be happier and save money in the long run.
Hi there, Unfortunately, you may have a true allergy to Juvederm. Under no circumstances would I recommend you ignore your negative reaction and put Juvederm back in your lips. You should patch test it first and have the doctor put a small amount of Juvederm in your forearm. Then, you should check every day for two weeks for any swelling, redness or tenderness. If you notice any changes with your arm you know you cannot place it back in your lips without having a problem. If you have no issues with swelling on your lips, then you can let your doctor try a litter bit in your lips, good luck.Dr Downie.
In my experience it is best to not have juviderm injections while you are being treated for an infection. I would wait until it it cleared up.
The ability of a filler to "lift" is based on it's G prime, or "hardness." Fillers with a higher G prime can lift more. Voluma has a relatively higher G prime than other products so when injected deeper into the cheek it can create a "lifting" effect. It typically does take a bit more...
Thank you for sharing your question. There is a point in time where the amount of filler placed will preclude additional treatment as the lip tissues can not stretch further. That said 5mL of JVD UP is a substantial amount for the lips and I would recommend a second opinion or other fill...
There is no evidence that patients with Ehlers Danlos won't have good results with fillers. Keep in mind, a combination approach would give the most improvement. I recommend fillers for the folds themselves but also lifting around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In o...
I would go to a board certified plastic surgeon to have this assessed and to talk about your options. The problem with silicone injections is that there is a risk of a complication if filler is injected around these substances. When the silicone sets sometimes it encapsulates itself and if a ...
