Botox for permanent wrinkles removal?

Unfortunately Botox does not permanently remove the wrinkles,
but is a temporary fix. Botox works to weaken the muscle movement to help
eliminate the appearance of fine lines that the muscle creates. However over
that 3 to 4 month period, the body metabolizes the product. So it is important
to maintain a regular schedule to receive Botox.

BOTOX® can be a very effective wrinkle treatment, and
works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for forming dynamic
wrinkles. Unfortunately, the effects of BOTOX® last only a few months. Your
surgeon is correct to say that getting injections every few months will
maintain your results, but it’s necessary to keep up that schedule of
injections as long as you want your results to last, as BOTOX® is gradually absorbed
by the body over the course of about 4 months. Sometimes a regular treatment
plan for BOTOX® will mean needing fewer injections over time, but cosmetic
surgery remains the only long-term wrinkle treatment.

This is absolutely not true.  Although the muscles will not be active during the year of treatment, as soon as you stop, the muscle activity will return to normal.

Many of my patients have reported that the effect of their Botox injections lasts longer over time, but Botox will not permanently remove wrinkles.  The majority of patients find that the effect lasts about 3-4 months.

Thank you for your question. Botox treatments are recommended approx. every 3 months, as that is typically how long the product lasts. A patient must continue with Botox treatments in order to reap wrinkle free benefits.Best,  

We all wish a few injection of Botox would make our wrinkles go away forever!  Unfortunately, however, that is not the case.  Botox lasts for about 3 to 4 months once injected.  To have the continued anti-wrinkle effect of Botox, you need to get regular treatments.  Sorry for the confusion!

As Botox lasts about 3-4 months on average, I do agree with your plastic surgeon in terms of the frequency of follow-up treatments -- my patients typically receive treatment 3 times a year.  However, although there is an additive effect, Botox does not fix the problem permanently.Botox does 3 main things:(1) Delay the onset of future wrinkles(2) Reduce the formation of "active" wrinkles.  These are wrinkles that appear more prominent when you activate the muscle, such as the forehead wrinkles that appear when you raise your eyebrows.(3) Reduce the formation of "static" wrinkles.  These are wrinkles that are always present on your face.As great a product as Botox is, it is only a temporary fix and your wrinkles will never be removed permanently.

You are correct in that Botox causes temporary relaxation of the muscles which cause frown line wrinkles. With consistent use, the muscles can be significantly weakened and will actually shrink. This can lead to a longer lasting reduction in the wrinkles. However, treatment with Botox does not permanently erase wrinkles. There is no permanent cure for wrinkles as we continue to age and new wrinkles can always form. Hope this helps answer your question.

Treatment with Botox gives a temporary effect to the treated area but it is true that with repeated treatments that the frown or wrinkle can improve more over time.  If you stopped having the treatments, the frown or wrinkle would return though so I would not say that Botox would give permanent results.  

There is growing research that Botox can stunt the progression or development of dynamic wrinkles (the expression wrinkles that form around our eyes, brow, and forehead.)
A convincing argument for preventative Botox comes from two renowned dermatologists published in JAMA Dermatology” who assert, “Initiating regular treatment with a neuromodulator in an individual’s 20s or 30s will have a dramatic effect on the appearance of the face as seen in the person’s 40s or 50s. There will be few, if any, imprinted lines of facial expression present.”
“Long-term effects of botulinum toxin type A (Botox) on facial lines: a comparison in identical twins,”  a study published in Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery supports this claim.  The study followed identical twins over a 13-year period. One twin received regular Botox treatments. The other twin did not. The twin who received preventative Botox treatments showed dramatically less frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles than the twin who did not undergo preventative Botox treatments. This led researchers to conclude, “long-term treatment with Botox can prevent the development of imprinted facial lines that are visible at rest. Botox treatment can also reduce crow's feet.”
