Thank you for your question and the answer is YES.Yes, the position of the lip corners is governed by a balance of muscle-lifters and muscle-downers. By weakening the 'downers' with injectables (botulinum derivatives), you will get a lift of the corners. The lift is stronger if you have strong depressors, something your injector would address during your consultation. There are 6 main muscles that pull down and which can be treated. But make sure you get an expert injector as there is a danger zone very close where you can get a complication from such as crooked smile. Some dermal fillers such as #Restylane or #Juvederm can also help the corners - the so-called marionette lines. For your information, I am a #Toronto Board-certified #PlasticSurgeon, I train doctors with injections and I perform all my injections in my 2 offices, downtown Toronto and uptown Richmond Hill. I would be happy to help!Best regards,Dr. Marc DuPere, Plastic Surgeon, Toronto416-929-9800
Botox indeed can be used to lift the corners of the upper lip. Please consult an experienced injector for this treatment.
Although Botox can lift the corners of the lip, it must be injected in low doses and very carefully or it can have unwanted effects on lip movement. It can be injected into the muscles that normally depress the corners of the lip to temporarily decrease their downward pull.
Hi there, great question. The answer is yes....BUT...and this is a big but (i realize the humor in that statement, however I will leave it in). There is a risk with this and this risk can be somewhat disfiguring. I myself have done this injection a number of times, but I've abandoned it. The problem is people have variable anatomy and if you are off by 1mm you potentially can cause your smile to be very assymetrical. It can look like one half of your mouth does no move properly, particularly when you smile. Now, of all the times I've done this injection, things have been fine, but when it doesn't go correctly, its a disaster for the patient. So for me, i decided that the risk was not worth it, regardless how small a chance. So, as mentioned, the answer is yes, but ensure you see a very confident, experienced injector. James P. Strategic injections of Botox on each Depressor Anguli Oris muscle and in combination of using dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane on the Oral commisures will help lift the corners of the mouth making it look young and rejuvenated.
Thank you for your question. A small amount of Botox injected into the depressor anguli oris (an area just below the corners of your mouth) can relax the muscle that pulls the corners of the mouth down, allowing for the smile to lift. A small amount of Botox can be added to the upper lip and allow for a modest lip curl. Best,
Thanks for this question.Botox can in some people lift the corners of your mouth. Make sure this is done by someone with significant expertise else it can have the opposite effect.Sometimes fillers can be added to the Botox to give some extra support and to lessen the shadows at the corners.
Three or four units injected into the depressor anguli oris muscle on each side can relax these muscles causing an upturn to the corners of the mouth. When combined with fillers such as Juvederm injected into the lateral oral commisures, a very pleasing result can be obtained. Take care and good luck.
In certain people with an overactive DAO muscle Botox can be used to lift the corners of the mouth. This creates a subtle change but can create a much more pleasant look. For many of my patients, this is their favorite injection and the area that they find most pleasing after Botox treatment. It is important to find an experienced physician injector as this is an advanced injection and exceptional knowledge of the anatomy is required to avoid creating a temporary asymmetric smile. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon
A small amount of Botox can be given to treat a downturned smile which results from hyperactive muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down. This is an advanced injection technique as the dosing and knowledge of the anatomy are crucial in preventing unwanted results. Too much Botox in this area can result in the "joker smile". Do your research and find an experienced injector. Best of luck.
Seamus6654,This is easy to correct, but if you have never had Botox before you should wait about a week to see if the area catches up, or not. Onset of Botox is generally faster if you have had serial treatments. Retreatment can be done at any time. I hope that this helps.Best...
You may be having a side effect from the botox - the botox has likley affected a muscles that help you articulate words when you speak. this will be temporary and you should find it improves fairly quickly over the next few weeks. It will not permanently affect your speech, it is...
I tell all of my patients that the Botox can kick in anywhere between day one and day 10 after the injection. It is very variable, and it may be different from one treatment to the next. Don’t judge it until after day 10 however.
