Thank you for your question. This may be a side effect. It will go awsay in a few weeks up to 3 months. No long term damage is done. Either avoid the mouth, or use a lower dose.I hope this helps!
Thank you for your question. Yes, what you are describing sounds like a side effect of Botox. Unfortunately you have to wait approx. 3 months for the product to wear off. Best,
This is due to incorrect placement or too much botox in the area. There is nothing you can do at this time until the botox wears off in 3-4 months, but it should get better in 3-6 weeks. Best, Dr. Emer.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done until the BOTOX wears off. BOTOX in that area is not FDA approved.
Hi-yes side effect--fortunately the unwanted effects usually resolve much sooner than the wanted effects-hang in there!
want to see a very conservative practitioner...most people do not inject into this area under normal circumstances because of the predictable problem you're encountering...but the good news...the effects of botox probably will fade in the next several weeks and won't last the entire 3 months you can expect from botox injected into the traditional areas...next time skip the corners of your mouth
Botox works by weakening muscles that cause movement. If the muscles do not move as intensely, the lines formed by these muscle contractions will smooth out over time (about a month after your treatment). One of the risks of treating the lower face is that those muscles are needed for everyday activities such as talking, smiling, kissing, and chewing. If the incorrect muscle is treated, there is diffusion of the product into surrounding muscles, or too much is used, weakness can happen. Fortunately, it will fade and you will have no permanent problems. Most patients that experience this side effect will notice an improvement in about 2 weeks with complete resolution by 3 months. To minimize your risk of this happening, it is best to be treated by a Board Certified Dermatologist experienced in this treatment with excellent knowledge of facial anatomy.
Dear Tracy,The changes in your speech articulation can certainly be caused by the Botox injections you received. These changes will improve as the Botox "wears off". Hopefully, you speech will get better before the usual 3 to 4 months that it takes most patients to metabolize their Botox injections. This complication speaks to the necessity of having your injections performed by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon or dermatologist (or a certified nurse injector under their direct supervision). By having your injections performed by such a qualified person, the chance of complications such as this are lessened. Be patient as the Botox effects lessen and see your injector so they know how you were affected and so the same injection is not repeated. Best wishes.
You may be having a side effect from the botox - the botox has likley affected a muscles that help you articulate words when you speak. this will be temporary and you should find it improves fairly quickly over the next few weeks. It will not permanently affect your speech, it is just a temporary relaxation of the muscles that help you form clear words.
tracystclair, This may be an undesirable side effect of Botox, in that Botox effect on the complex muscle coordination of the mouth can be placed in an imbalance by blocking some of the anchor function of the muscles at the corners of the mouth. It will wear off, but this is also one of the reasons that I do not generally offer Botox around the mouth and lips. Botox effects are always reversible, but may take weeks to months to resolve. It would be a good idea to bring this to the attention of whoever did the injections to seek their input. I hope that this helps.Best wishes, Tom DeWire, MD, FACS Richmond, VA
