Advice appreciated regarding Rhinoplasty; does Blue Cross Blue Shield cover it? (Photos)

Insurance may cover part of a rhinoplasty procedure in some cases.  Insurance will cover rhinoplasty surgery that are related to improving function of the nose including nasal obstruction.  To get this coverage, you have to follow their protocol of previous treatments and documentation.  If you have not previously seen a doctor and had other medical treatments for nasal obstruction, it will be unlikely that your insurance will cover any part of the procedure. Insurance will not cover any aspects of the surgery that would be aesthetic.There are many 3rd party options to pay for a rhinoplasty including care credit.I hope this helps.

Unfortunately insurance does not cover cosmetic rhinoplasty.  You're best option would be to save some money and then get it done down the road.  However if you do not want to wait and you can apply for care gravid or go to another company called prosper and get financing.  I wish you best luck in your endeavors.RegardsDr. J

It is unlikely that the insurance company will cover an aesthetic rhinoplasty. Typically, unless you have congenital breathing issues or trauma then the insurance might consider it. However, care credit is a good option and is taken at most physician offices.

Your best option is Care credit but be sure you understand the fees and interest rates involved.  Unfortunately insurances will not cover your rhinoplasty since it is aesthetic in nature.  Best wishes, Dr. T

Hi.  Your question focused on your desire for rhinoplasty.  In my opinion, desire for rhinoplasty typically constitutes cosmetic type procedure.  If you had reasons for nasal obstruction that were directly related to collapse or instability of your external nose, that would possibly be covered by insurance.  Typically the bolstering of the cartilages and the reshaping of the obstructed part of the nose is what is covered.  If patients come in to describe their desired nose, that as well constitutes a cosmetic procedure.  All and all you are typically better off trying to finance this procedure with car credit or wait.  The ones thing that is very wrong to do I try to get this covered by insurance and have a less than desirable outcome.  I typically charge significantly more for a secondary rhinoplasty typically because there is much more analysis and work involved in getting the desired outcome 

 In order to bill a medical insurance company, there must be medical necessity documented at the time of the surgery such as a severe nasal fracture, or deviated nasal septum causing obstruction to the nose. Medical insurance does not pay for cosmetic changes to the nose. Most offices offer third-party financing options for patients.

If someone says they'll take insurance be very wary; could end up costing you more and you are likely getting an inexperienced surgeon. See an experienced surgeon that does "only faces" and has a lot of good photos on their web site. Search the Internet. Good luck!
