It is recommended that you get as close to your goal weight as possible before surgery. Losing 20 pounds or more can make a difference and leave you with excess skin. Good luck!

I always advise patients to get to, and maintain their goal weight before having surgery.  With a mommy makeover we lift and tighten your tissue.  If you lose weight after that, you may again having sagging, extra skin on your tummy, and possibly some "ptosis", or sagging and deflation of your breasts as well.  To get the optimal result from your surgery, you want to be of stable goal weight.  This is big surgery you are undertaking-  its important to do everything you can before to have the best result possible! 

That kind of anticipated weight loss (more than 10%) could definitely make what looked tighter/lifted at a certain weight (190 lb) look a lot less so later (especially if you know you lose breast size with weight loss). If you lose serious weight post-op, you are probably increasing your need for revisions of some sort to get the look you want . . . 

Significant weight loss after a Mommy Makeover can alter your results.  Patients who are considering weight loss are encouraged to reach their weight loss goal prior to surgery.  This allows the surgeon the opportunity to maximize your results.

It is always best to be within 5-10 pounds of the weight that is realistic for you to maintain. Losing 20 pounds after a mommymakeover certainly could compromise your results.  If you are having good results with losing your weight, I would postpone your surgery until you are closer to your target.  However, if you have been struggling for months trying to lose that 20 pounds, realistically it probably isn't going to happen and you might as well proceed with surgery to maximize your figure at your current weight.

Thank you for the question! A mommy makeover typically incorporates a tummy tuck and liposuction, which should not be treated as weight loss procedures. Therefore, patients are strongly advised to achieve their ideal weight beforehand. What often happens after a major weight loss is that you end up with some loose skin. A tummy tuck will correct this hanging skin as well as eliminate any remaining excess fat. Losing weight after a tummy tuck will pretty much defeat the purpose of the procedure, leaving you with potentially more loose skin.

I agree with the others concerning this issue.  It is best to be as close to your ideal body weight before surgery.  If you are planning to lose 20 lbs, I recommend doing so before surgery for two reasons...
1.  You can have a better surgical result after losing the weight than if you don't lose the weight first.
2.  You could require a revision after losing the weight after surgery due to your results being altered with the weight loss
Now everyone is usually always wanting to lose 5 or 7lbs and thats ok to do continue to do before or after surgery but 20+ lbs can make a meaningful impact and requires planning the right timing for your surgery.

The most important factor of plastic surgery is to be at your goal weight.  If you undergo your procedures and lose weight after the fact you will almost certainly end up with loose skin, which can negate the entire surgery. This is important to discuss with your plastic surgeon before you have your procedure done.
