Does lip fillers cause wrinkles after wearing off?

I am not aware of any cases where lip wrinkles were aggravated after filler wore off. You would have to put an enormous amount of filler in your lip to come even close to what happens during pregnancy. This is a procedure performed with you awake, so at any time you can tell the surgeon to stop the process when you get to the stage where you like the results. Also, remember that the filler is reversible with another type of injections. I'd say Go For It. This a procedure with a high satisfaction rate, but make sure you go to a Board Certified Physician to get the best results.

Thank you for your question. Once your filler is fully metabolized by your body, your lips will return to their pre-treatment appearance. There will be no sagging or wrinkling of your lips. If you want to remove the filler sooner you can dissolve it with an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. Because such a small amount of filler is used during lip injections, it will not result in wrinkles and sagging lips after the filler wears off. However, once it does wear off, you may see similar lips than what you had before your treatment. It is important to discuss your individual concerns and expectations with your injector before treatment to ensure desired results. 

Filler doesn't stretch out skin enough to cause wrinkles.  Also it dissolves into the body very slowly so the skin has plenty of time to adjust to the size change.  However, filler do tend to hold more water in the lip and lips tend to look smoother with filler in place. Once it wears off and you don't have that they will have more lines than with filler in place, just as they did prior to filler.

In my experience, you do not need to worry about having more wrinkles or skin that is stretched out because you have had filler in your lips and you decide to not continue with treatment.  The only thing to be aware of is getting used to the plump and hydrated look of having filler in your lips.  As it starts to metabolize, you may feel like you have more lines simply because you got used to your lips being a certain way with the filler.  Your skin will remain very elastic after the filler is gone, so please don't be concerned.  Wishing you so much bliss on your journey!

Thank you for sharing your concerns.  It's important to remember that when we discuss syringes of filler, we're talking about a very small volume of product.  If you do the math, 15 syringes of Juvederm add up to just 1 tablespoon of filler.  Most patients get 1-2 syringes of filler injected in their lips, some opt for even less than that.  When the filler wears off, your lips should completely return to normal.  I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss the best treatment options for you.  Best of luck!

Fillers should not cause wrinkles but people often forget what their lips look like and don't study the finer details before their procedure. This can cause them to believe that their lip wrinkles are worse after the filler wears off. 
The best way to avoid this experience is to take careful close-up pictures before injecting the filler. When we do this at our practice, our patients are usually surprised and realize that they want to use filler more frequently rather than let it wear off.  

Lip fillers used in a conservative manner should not result in wrinkles after they wear off.  If the lips are blown up to be "supersized", I suppose it  might be possible to some extent.
