Often chronic wounds are due to an underlying issue that needs to be fixed before the wound will go away, this could be an infected suture deep inside, or even an infected implant. If you haven’t been having a large amount of pain, fevers, or redness of the breast then the implant might be ok, but the would should be explored to look for the culprit which is causing this issue for you.

the drainage you explain may be a small collection, or seroma, which is not rare. They often drain and take care of themselves and heal well. The drainage areas may lead back to a collection site, but although these are very scary looking, often you can expect good healing. Any excess scar on the outside can often be addressed with a small office procedure.

If you have implants, your implant is probably exposed and you need to be seen right away. The implant may need to be removed to avoid an infection. If you do not have implants, you may have a small pocket of fluid, a seroma, that needed to be drained, or internal sutures that have become exposed. Please be checked by your surgeon.

Unfortunately, you don’t give your full history. Do you have an implant? If so that creates a whole set of different concerns. How long has this been going on? Is it improving since it opened up? Fever, continued major drainage? Cultured?

While I can understand your worry and concerns with a desire to blame your surgeon, it is wrong to do so. Infections happen, and unlikely to be your surgeon’s fault if a fully trained plastic surgeon. They are your best hope for resolution.

A late reaction like this is unusual. Be sure to stay connected with your surgeon until it resolves or your care is transferred.

Sometimes deep sutures get contaminated and need to be removed in order for the tissues to heal.
Do you have breast implants? If you do, then, you need to make sure your implants are not exposed.
If you don’t have implants, then get guidance from your provider regarding basic wound care to allow your incision to heal up.
