$14,000 for Tummy tuck and Lipo quote??? Doesn't this seem high? (photos)

Doctor quoted $14,000 for tummy tuck and lipo of the love handles and thighs. From our research this seems way over the top of the average price. I am in Maine. Please advise me if I should find a different doctor, or maybe ask why the quote was so high.

Just a routine tummy tuck with the included modest lipo of waist would be about  $7700 in my practice. If you added inner and outer thigh lipo and full waist so we  needed to flip you during surgery then the price of 14 is about right. Might want to just do tummy tuck if that is better for the budget. If you are concerned your quote is too high, I suggest finding another board certified plastic surgeon nearby for another opinion and quote.  Prices will vary by region and within each region, they will vary by surgeon.  In remote areas where there are fewer providers, prices may be higher.

The operating room, anesthesia, doctor fees, are all part of how a surgery fee is calculated. If you feel comfortable with the physician and would like to proceed with surgery, you may want to discuss any promotions or discounts with his consultant. It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plastic
surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has
extensive experience in tummy tuck / abdominoplasty.

Unfortunately plastic surgery is not like comparing apples with apples.  The onus is on the prospective patient to do their homework!  Fees vary based on many factors including the skills and qualifications of your surgeon.  In Australia, not all doctors doing cosmetic surgery procedures are plastic surgeons or even surgeons so you will see a huge variation in fees between cosmetic doctors and plastic surgeons who have trained for a further 12 years to gain their qualifications.  Unfortunately when it comes to "cheap" deals you nearly always get what you pay for.

Buying a cosmetic surgery procedure is not exactly like buying a car. When you buy a car, you can easily compare prices because the product you buy is identical with different dealers. When you buy cosmetic surgery, the product can be completely different and you may end up comparing the price of a Fiat 500 to the price of a Ferrari. Unfortunately, this means that you need to put more effort in your research, ask more questions, and finally compare surgeons 'like for like' particularly on the aspects of the procedure that interest you.

I am in NYC where there is huge variation in pricing but have patients from upstate NY who report that prices there are higher, despite lower operating expenses, based on supply and demand.  I think you are seeing that same phenomenon in Maine.  You can definitely inquire whether the quoted fee is negotiable but also get another opinion in your general area for purpose of comparison.

You will find that costs vary by region of the country and from surgeon to surgeon. In my area that combination could range from $10k to $12k depending on many variables. If you think the price is high then get a second opinion from another Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
