Is it normal to feel an upset stomach after a tummy tuck?

I had extended TT on Monday. I seem to be doing okay except my tummy feels upset all day. Like if I ate something that is going to give me diarreah. I have been eating what the nurses give me its just something that is all day long even when I have not ate. It makes me nauseas sometimes and I get hot flashes :(

You just had your surgery so it's normal for your stomach to feel upset initially. After a TT, many patients report feeling bloated and full. The medications may also be causing your upset stomach so best to check in with your operating surgeon so he or she can follow up with you to make sure you get better.

GI upset is very common after surgery, especially tummy tucks.  It is frequently related to anesthesia, meds, and changes to your anatomy.  Most will resolve with time, but let your surgeon know of any worsening or persistent issues you are having.  Some do require further work up or treatment.

It sounds as though you may be experiencing a reaction to the medications or anesthesia. Please discuss this with your surgeon and he or she may recommend something to alleviate your discomfort. It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plastic

General anesthesia can give you symptoms of stomach upset, nausea, etc. It usually comes out of your system in a day or two. Antibiotics can sometimes cause a terrible infection in your colon causing diarrhea. If the symptoms persist get evaluated by your doctor. Best of luck. Dr. Michael Omidi

Congratulations on your recovery.With any surgery, your body would be stressed and intestines move slower due to pain medication and anesthesia.  In addition, your abdomen and muscle are tight and give you bloating and feeling full easily.  Your upset stomach may also be due to medication.If your condition persist, contact your plastic surgeon to be evaluated in-person.Good luck with recovery.
