Is it possible for voluma to disappear after a month?

I got 2 syringes of voluma injected to my receding chin about a month ago, i loved the result during the first 2 week, but on the third week i started noticing that my chin went back to how it was before.. And now a month later i can barely see a change from how i looked before voluma. What's the explanation to this?

I'm sorry you are having such a frustrating time. I am not sure why you would be getting this kind of result. Voluma should last from 18 months to 2 years. Some people have a faster metabolism, and so it might not last quite as long in those cases, but I have never heard of it dissolving after just a month. Do you have photos right after your procedure that you can compare to photos of yourself now? It is possible that the augmentation you noticed directly after the procedure was due to swelling, which has now subsided, and that what you are realizing now is that you did not receive enough Voluma to create the kind of difference you were hoping for. Sometimes going back to look at before and afters can really help provide perspective. Consulting your board-certified dermatologist and bringing photos of yourself before and directly after your Voluma treatment should help you understand what is going on and why you are dissatisfied. You may need more Voluma or you may need to find a different dermatologist to help you get the results you want.

It would be extremely unlikely for Voluma to disappear within a month. Many patients will get up to 2 years of improvement. While some patients will break down fillers much more quickly than others, I have not seen a patient break down Voluma within a month. 
I would suggest visiting with your injector and comparing photographs from before the injections to now. This would show you much of the product is still visible. As others have said, the more significant change that you noticed after injections could have been partially attributable to swelling that has now resolved. As always, a board-certified physician injector specializing in facial aesthetics is recommended.

Voluma is intended to last 2 years. Please discuss with your injector or board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Thank you for sharing your question.  All other things being equal it would be very unusual to have Voluma disappear within a month.  I would check with your injector to ensure what filler was placed.  Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear the Voluma feels gone in your case. I suggest you discuss this issue with your injector and compare the before injection photos with the after injection photos. For most patients, the swelling subsides at the two week mark. You probably got used to looking at the swelling. I bet if you saw pre-op pictures, there has been more improvement than you think. However, if you aren't happy, return to your surgeon to discuss. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question someone1212. Voluma is a filler used to enhance the appearance of the face. After any filler injection swelling is normal for about 2 weeks. Many people enjoy the swelling as it provides much of the volume that is desired. After this time the swelling goes away and final results are seen. We have our patients return at this time to take after photographs to assess the results. It is difficult to make an assessment without photographs. Voluma lasts about 2 years for most patients. While there are always exceptions, my guess is that you've had more improvement than you think. It might be that you got used to how things looked swollen and now that the swelling has subsided, you aren't as happy? I would suggest that you ask to see your pre-op photos and then discuss your results with your surgeon.

Hi ThereThank you for your question. This is a common question and there are 4 main causes.Firstly swelling is sometimes underestimated especially if there is a little hidden bruising. When it goes down the perceived effect is reduced.Secondly some people whose weight varies somewhat seem especially prone to perceived loss of Voluma, although in this case that seems less likely.Thirdly, I seem to find that athletes or very physically active individuals seem to have problems retaining filler.Fourthly and rarely there are individuals who just burn filler up and not just 2mls but I have seen 600ml of filler completely vanish in 4 weeks in certain individuals. It is common experience that some individuals can drink large amounts of alcohol and be apparently sober whereas others fall over after 1 drink. We all vary in how active our enzymes that attack these fillers are.Probably you need to try more filler.Kind RegardsDr Dinesh Maini

Unfortunately without photos it is really impossible to say but it is very surprising to hear that you had two syringes and after a month it's already unnoticeable. My first question would be if you went to a reputable doctor and are certain you were injected with Voluma? If that is that case, you may just need more. As long as you went to a doctor you trust for the initial procedure, I would recommend returning and expressing your concerns as I'm sure they will be happy to help.
