Voluma and exercise: how long should one wait before resuming any physical activity?

I just received Voluma in my cheeks. How long do I have to wait before exercising?

Voluma is composed
of hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in our skin as a
moisturizer. Therefore, it is biocompatible, easily tolerated, and
has no real side effects or reactions. However, you may experience
some bruising, soreness or redness from the injections. I'd recommend
letting your body rest and recover for at least 48 hours before
engaging in vigorous exercise as the increased blood flow could make
you bruise more. I would also recommend avoiding heat, such as hot
yoga, saunas and steam rooms for about 48 hours, just as a
precaution. We also recommend avoiding dental appointments for one
month after Voluma to minimize the rare risk of a biofilm (a
bacterial infection), which is thought to be a rare side effect
following Voluma and dental work. Please consult a board-certified
dermatologist to have your face sculpted and rejuvenated with Voluma.

I let my patients exercise after 24 hours but there really is no restriction.  Swelling and bruising (needle injection) can get worse if you increase blood pressure too soon.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question. You should avoid exercise for 24hours. If you feel you are swollen or bruised after 24hours you may want to wait a bit longer, until those side effects subside, as working out can make them worse. Good luck!

Thank you for your question. The answer to this question is ultimately the jurisdiction of your surgeon, and should be detailed in the post op care instructions. Side effects of voluma will fade within 2 to 4 weeks allowing the patient to completely return to all activities. Always consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

I typically advise my patients to wait 24 hours before exercising after any injectable in order to reduce the chance of swelling. Hope this helps.

I recommend avoiding exercise (beyond simple walking) to all Botox and filler patients (including those undergoing Voluma injections) until the day after the injection.  In the case of dermal fillers, premature exercise can result in increased bruising and swelling at the injection sites.

This is a great question!  In general, I recommend that patients avoid strenuous exercise for about 24 hours after a Voluma treatment.  Although the exercise is unlikely to impact your final result, it can increase your risk of swelling and bruising immediately after treatment.  Best of luck!
