Great question! Unless there's a medical issue causing you to have a high hemogolbin that would prevent you from having general anesthesia, your surgeon will most likely not cancel surgery. Having a higher hemoglobin at the moment, barring any issues, is actually a good thing as you will have a decent amount of blood loss and if you are tanked up, then you won't be quite as deficient afterwards.Best of luck and hope this information helps!- Dr. Roger Tsai Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
If your hemoglobin and hematrocrit levels are high, this shouldn't be a reason to cancel your surgery.
If a patient is severely dehydrated (fasting prior to the blood test or other reasons), the hemoglobin and hematocrit can appear higher than normal. If your PS requested the lab tests, he/she will review the results and notify you if he/she is concerned about the levels. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Dear mztirado, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. It is unlikely that your surgery will be cancelled due to your blood analysis results. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Thank you so much for share with us your concern.Your are in an excellent condition with those levels, if your Surgeon decides to cancel your surgery it will be for another reason or some risk those levels can cause. Speak with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in other to discuss your concerns. Best of luck! Dr. Quiroz
It's unlikely that surgery will be cancelled for having a hematocrit that is too high unless there is a concern that it is high because of another medical problem that needs to be worked up. It most likely represents that you were a bit dehydrated when you took your blood test. I'd suggest booking an appointment with your surgeon to discuss your concerns before your procedure to ensure there is no issue. Hope that helps!
I doubt that they will cancel you for an elevated Hb HCT level. Unless you have medical concerns, most causes of an elevation is from dehydrations.Good luck with your procedure.Dr T
Good Morning,Often people get blood work on an empty stomach with nothing to eat or drink for a few hours. This can make you a little dehydrated and make some of your lab results look a bit concentrated, or high. It is unlikely this would delay your surgery unless other results indicate some reason to do further evaluation to assess what is going on.Best Luck with your surgery!
if your plastic surgeon ordered your blood test then he or she should already be aware of the numbers. Your lab values are in the high-end of normal. Considering you will have some blood loss with your surgery this should restore your numbers to within a normal range and having a slight bit extra hemoglobin may serve you well for an upcoming surgical procedure. If you have not done so already and your plastic surgeon did not order your lab tests then I suggest you discuss this with him or her before your procedure. Questions about blood tests before BBL surgery seems to come consistently from patients planning on traveling to either the Dominican republic and locational he Miami for their procedure. I encourage all patients to stay local for elective surgical procedures. Patients do not appreciate the importance of aftercare, the complications actually do happen as well as the need for revision surgery. In case you're planning on traveling for surgery these are things to keep in mind. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
