A breast augmentation is a purely elective procedure. To get the best possible results your health should be optimized prior to having this surgery. It is possible to have a breast augmentation if you have Hepatitis C, but you would need medical clearance from your primary care doctor or specialist to make sure your medical condition is stable and would not increase your chance of complications. Make sure your plastic surgeon is aware of any medical conditions prior to surgery so your procedure can be done safely and with optimal results.
Aloha,Hep C is not necessarily a contra-indication to getting breast implants. The abnormal WBC may be more of an issue, depending on the cause and severe. Here at our practice we would ask you to get a 'Medical Clearance' from your Family Dr &/or Specialist prior to surgery.Mahalo, Dr D
Thank you for your question. I would check with your plastic surgeon for the specifics on what is needed before surgery. Reasons for an elevated or very low white blood count can factor in the decision for surgery. Hepatitis C alone is not a contraindication for surgery.Hepatitis C alone, is not
Thank you for your question. A breast augmentation can be performed in someone who is Hepatitis C positive, but the abnormal WBC should be investigated to insure that your immune system is working appropriately. Too low of a WBC may predispose you to an infection and indicates advanced liver damage that should be investigated for possible Harvoni/Sovaldi medication usage. Hope that this helps.
In my opinion you can have a breast augmentation if you have Hepatitis C as long as your liver function is normal. An abnormal white count needs to be investigated prior to any surgical intervention
Hi there…There is no reason why you cannot go undergo breast augmentation if you have hepatitis C. That said, you will likely need medical clearance prior to proceeding with the operation to ensure that your liver function has not been affected by the disease or that there are not other medical conditions that are of concern. In that light, your abnormal white blood cell count should be evaluated to ensure that there are no underlying medical or hematologic problems. It is absolutely critical that you seek the advice of a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of plastic surgery, and get the advice of your primary care or specialist physician to complete your preoperative medical clearance.I wish you the best!Dr. Gabbay.
The presence of Hepatitis C is not a contraindication for surgery but does pose a slightly higher risk for the surgeon should there be an accidental needle stick or something of the sort. However, I'm sure you will be able to find a competent plastic surgeon who is willing to perform your surgery. The abnormal WBC is a separate issue and would need to be evaluated by at least your primary care doc to determine the cause before proceeding with surgery (if it is high, an infection needs to be ruled out and if it is very high or low, a blood disease needs to be excluded). Best of luck!
Thank you for the question. Yes, you may be able to undergo breast augmentation surgery; in my practice, I would ask that you be seen by your internist or gastrointestinal physician prior to scheduling. The nature of the "abnormal WBC" and the status of your overall immune system will need to be ascertained clearly. Best wishes.
Hep C is not a contraindication to breast augmentation. However, its important for you to get medical clearance (see your internal medicine doc) before you opt for elective surgery. Best wishes.
Hi, aimomo. Having a Hep C alone is not a contra-indication for surgery as long as it is under control. Depending on the level of WBC, this may be a contra-indication for surgery. Low WBC may indicate a possible immunosuppressed state; high WBC may be due to an infection. Please get a clearance from your primary physician for surgery; also let your plastic surgeon know about you Hep C and abnormal WBC. Your physicians can give you a better guidance about your eligibility and safety for surgery after reviewing your history and lab work. Breast augmentation is an elective surgery. You want to undergo any type of elective surgery when you are healthy and medically optimized. Good luck.
It is quite normal for you to be fatigued after breast augmentation. This can last for some time. I'd discuss the matter with your plastic surgeon.I wish you the best,Dr. Gabbay.
