The inflammation under & around the tape got so bad that I called my PS asking if the tape should be removed. He said I can try to take it off by myself, so I tried, but there's no way I can remove it because the skin under the tape is oozing & is filled with liquid - the tape comes off with the skin leaving big bloody wounds. How do I remove it without ripping all of my skin off? Should I keep it on until it falls off? If so, will I run the risk of infection? Please help!

Answer: Go see your doc The tape needs to come off in circumstances like this but you also want to minimize tissue damage. I would tell you that you need to go see your surgeon TODAY or if this is not possible go see your regular doc or urgent care as an in person help with treatment of whatever is going on under the tape is needed. The internet is great but we can't treat something like this, this is what your surgeon needs to be available for.

Answer: Allergic reaction Unfortunately removing tape can be a little painful. In your case very painful. I suggest to my patient to remove tape off in the shower whilst wet- it is not a huge problem if your steri strips get wet as you can dry them with a hair dryer. Or another option l suggest to patients is using olive oil. This is a great alternative. However please make sure you do not get it on your wounds. Firstly though l would visit your plastic surgeon and speak with the clinic nurse and she/he can assist in removing this for you. Allergies are common to surgical tape so you are not alone. I wish you luck.
