Will I lose a cup size once swelling goes away after Breast Augmentation? (Photo)

There is always swelling that occurs with a breast augmentation, but not an entire cup size worth of swelling.  As you progress in the healing process, your breasts will relax, settle, and lose some volume.  However, I would expect that you will still be close to your current size.  They will just sit in a more natural way.  Usually at the one month mark your breasts will be pretty much the size they will remain, so just be patient and see how things evolve over the healing process.  I hope this helps.

Thanks for the question.In my practice, after performing a BA I recommend to my patients to limit the movement of the arms for two weeks. After that, you can move your arms taking care and always with common sense. In this regard, it's not advisable to carry heavy weights to prevent the implant out of position, and allow the formation of the physiological capsule around the implant, also to avoid pain and breast swelling.Kind regards,DR. The total recovery time following a breast augmentation varies from patient to patient but can take up to 6 months. However, most of the swelling will subside within about 3 - 6 weeks. Your breasts should not decrease an entire cup size after the swelling goes away completely. Most likely you will stay very close to the 36D results you are hoping for. I know it can be hard, but just be patient with the recovery process and if after a few months you are not happy, go back and see your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

Not sure you should experience such a drastic reduction in size as the swelling resolves. Remember, it can take a good 4-6 months to allow all the swelling to resolve and to let the implants drop and settle some. If you don't like your size/shape after 6 months, you can always discuss with your operating surgeon the option of going larger in the future. Good luck!

As swelling subsides and the tissues stretch a bit, you should loose that excess upper pole fullness and the projection should increase.  If you are a D cup now, you should stay close to that and not go down to a C cup with resolution of the swelling.  Best wishes, Dr. T

If you are more than a week post op then most all your swelling should be gone. As your implants settle the shape and look will change and improve. The size should remain the same. Good luck.

Hello,Thank you for your question and photo. You didn't state how long it has been since your surgery so it is difficult to comment on the amount of swelling you may have. Typically the majority of swelling is resolved in the first two weeks. Your implants will not change size but they will reposition/redistribute volume to fill out the lower poles of the breasts. This process is often referred to as the "Drop & Fluff" and it can take between 2-6 months to see your settled results.All the best

Thank you for your query. Certainly there can be substantial swelling after surgery and this can take unto 3months to settle completely. The swelling will go down but the size you have achieved by the implant should not go down too dramatically. The best assessment for shape and size can take between 3-6months. Wearing an appropriate sports bra during the first 3months is important as this will help in support and make you more comfortable. I normally also recommend some massage and taping for the scars. I call it the 5 days ON and 2 days OFF regime where you use paper tape continuously for 5 days followed by 2 tape free days with massage using a cream or oil product. This in my opinion will enhance your scar outcome.Hope this answers your questions.

 Congratulations on having undergone the breast augmentation procedure. Generally speaking, patients will report that their breasts will "soften up" over the course of the first several months after breast augmentation surgery. 

From the physiological standpoint, it takes many months ( and even up to one year) to see the final results of surgery. Factors such as swelling, tissue contraction, skin redraping, implant shifting etc. come into play. You may be pleasantly surprised ( in regards to breast size) once the "drop and fluff" phenomenon has occurred. As breast implants “settle”, many patients feel that their breasts actually look larger. From the psychological standpoint, patients undergo an “adaptation period" during which time they get used to the changes that the surgical procedure has brought about. Severe emotional swings can also occur after any type of surgical procedure.
I would suggest ongoing patience and frequent follow-up with your plastic surgeon.
