A preoperative appointment is the patient's opportunity to raise any questions not previously asked, to clarify certain points about the surgical procedure, and to further learn his/her responsibilities pre- and postoperatively. It is also the time that consents are signed, photos are taken, prescriptions are written, and the postoperative instructions are reviewed in written and oral fashion. It is also an opportunity for the Surgeon's staff to ascertain certain key points that the patient may or may not have understood from the initial visit(s): discontinuation of aspirin or NSAIDs, discontinuation of any weight loss medication (phentermine, etc.), discontinuation of any excess Vitamin E, fish oil, or exotic vitamins, and making sure that the patient has a responsible adult accompanying them and staying overnight.
Usually there is no charge for cosmetic rhinoplasties. If there is a functional component as in chronic breathing obstruction, then an insurance cost may be involved.
