5 days post BA surgery, I haven’t taken muscle relaxant pills at all, will this have a negative effect on me later?

In my experience of doing thousands of breast augmentation surgeries, I usually prescribe my patients a muscle relaxer like Valium; however, it’s not critical that you take it, & it won’t adversely affect your outcome. I usually tell my patients to avoid NSAID’s like ibuprofen because it can increase post operative bleeding, but again different surgeons will have different opinions on that. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your question.  There should be no ill effects of not taking the muscle relaxants.   I am assuming they were prescribed for pain and it might be worth phoning your PS office to make sure they are not part of some protocol they have for implant positioning.

Good morning!Not taking muscle relaxants after breast surgery will not effect your result.  The pills are used by some surgeons to ease the discomfort of your muscle being stretched when having your implant placed under the muscle but it does not effect final result.I hope this helps

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Ultimately medications of any kind are designed to help improve/ease your implant experience.  Not needing muscle relaxants is a positive situation and will not impact your long-term results beyond what was created at the time of your surgery.  Hope this helps.

All patients are different in their post op needs.  Some patients benefit from muscle relaxants, but there use will not affect outcome; kit is mainly fro patient comfort.  As you are not having significant pain, and are only using ibuprofen, it sounds like you are doing great! If you don't have muscle spasms/pain, there is no need to take them  Best Regards.

Congratulations on your recent surgery.  Muscle relaxers are a common medication used after undergoing a breast augmentation.  The majority of the time the implants are placed under the muscle and its thought that a muscle relaxer in the early healing process may benefit the patient and the post-op pain.  I do not feel it has any influence or impact on the final shape of your breast.  I would discuss with your plastic surgeon regarding their recommendation on which over the counter medications to use.  Best of luck in your continued healing process.

cio90.   I completely understand your philosophy regarding medications of any type. Many of us prescrib muscle relaxants after submuscular breast augmentation because in patients with tight chest muscles, and allows those muscles to relax over the implant faster. It also decreases pain. However if you are pain-free, chances are your chest muscles are relaxing on their own and you don’t need the medication. Check in with your plastic surgeon for the final word with this regard. Good luck

Many plastic surgeons do not even prescribe muscle relaxants after breast augmentation.  In many patients breast augmentation is not a painful procedure and I have had many patients who do not take narcotic pain pills at all after surgery.  It will be important for your plastic surgeon to see you and assess the progress of your healing after surgery.  They can reassure you that you are on track.  Good Luck to you!
