No antibiotic after tummy tuck and lipo. Is that OK?

I went and saw 2 plastic surgeons and both of them don't prescribe anitbiotic after their procedures. Is that ok?

Typically, a patient will be given one dose of antibiotics during  the surgery, and that is probably enough.You should inquire as to your plastic surgeon's practice.  Best wishes.

This is a clean operation and so technically does not require antibiotics at all.  Since the operation may last longer than 2 hours and some doctors use drains (I do not) a preoperative dose may be used and some continue them for days.  Every pill is a little poison as well so they should be used with caution and for a purpose.  Antibiotics after are usually not needed.

Hello and thank you for reaching out. Every surgeon has their own preference of post operative care and which medications they choose to use on patients. I do prescribe my patients antibiotics after any surgical procedure, but there's no way to compare 2 surgeon's preferences or practices. Express your concern to them, and let them explain their reasoning behind their decision. Best Wishes.

Medical data indicates that the only antibiotic dosing that prevents infection is the dose administered within one hour of the surgical incision. Like many other surgeons, I use this as a practice guideline with some exceptions, such as when implants are used. The recommendation you received sounds quite reasonable and in line with the modern standard of care.
