One doctor told me that he uses stitches that dissolve in about 8 months because the permanent sutures can have a "grating" affect on the muscles. He says that the diastasis will permanently heal and will not reopen after they have been held in place for 6-8 months. It seems that most surgeons are using permanent stitches to tighten the abdominal muscles. I would like a consensus. Thanks for your reply!

You may experience more swelling that would delay your recovery. The girdle also provides support for the incision(s) and helps your skin conform to your new leaner shape. If you are experiencing pain when you wear your girdle, I suggest you speak with your surgeon. It might not fit properly.
Thank you very much for your question.I typically just ask patients to put a little bacitracin and a bandaid over it for a few days.However, I would contact your surgeon's office and ask them their preference. I wouldn't want to recommend something that is contrary to what they want. Best of luck!
