Alcohol consumption prior to Breast Augmentation.

Question

Im having surgery aug 11th I was told to stop taking certain medications now which I am good with but unsure about alcohol. I like to have a margarita or 2, once sometimes twice a week here an there..not every week...can i still have a few margaritas up to the pre-op appt or no? I saw this question quite often on here but I want to be specific that I want to have margaritas and I do usually have a couple in a week when I do drink them.

Each surgeon has their own specific guidelines.  Definitely don't have any alcohol the night before surgery, because it could cause dehydration.

Thank you for your question.  You will find that there will be many different answers to this question because there is no absolute right or wrong here.  It is always best to follow the advice of your surgeon, however.  I do not restrict alcohol intake prior to surgery as long as it is moderate use.  Best of luck

I ask my patients to not consume alcohol 1-2 weeks prior to surgery, and throughout the healing so that it does not interfere with other medications and healing process.

It's best to ask your surgeon about this.  For my
patient who participate in occasional to moderate drinking, I only ask them to
stop drinking alcohol the night before surgery.  There is
little evidence to show that continued mild to moderate alcohol consumption the
week before surgery has any negative effects.

I request that my patients abstain from alcohol use for at least one week prior to surgery. There is no absolute correct answer on this one, so definitely would go with whatever your surgeon prefers.

Occasional alcohol consumption should be ok prior to surgery, however I would recommend abstaining from alcohol for at least a week prior to surgery.  This opinion may vary from surgeon to surgeon based on your health history, so it is always best to make a call to surgeon to ask his/her opinion.

Thank you for your question. It is best to ask your surgeon what their preference is on timing. One or two servings of alcohol during the week leading up to your surgery should not interfere with your anesthesia. Just remember, all things in moderation. Best wishes.

Moderate alcohol intake (1 marg) a few days before surgery has no deleterious effect, but heavy intake up to the date of surgery would be a problem.

You want to be in your best health prior to your breast augmentation surgery.  Although and occasional Margarita will not necessarily arm you, I asked my patients not to consume alcohol along with other drugs that can interfere with blood clotting 2 weeks prior to surgery.
