Answer: BBL in Cape Town I don’t know the plastic surgery community in South Africa but almost every country in the world will have talented and some less talented plastic surgeons. In the end there are two variables that determine what cosmetic surgery procedures like the BBL results turn out like. The first is the candidacy of the individual patient for the procedure and the second is the skill and experience of the provider. To have a clear understanding of what the results will look like and have the highest chance of getting quality results patients need to have a good understanding of their own candidacy for the procedure and find the most experienced and talented provider in their community. Getting an assessment is part of having in person consultations at which time a talented plastic surgeon will make the assessment and explain it to you in regards to why or why not you should expect the type of results they are describing for you. During consultations patients should ask providers to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedure they’re interested in. In your case liposuction of the Torso with gluteal fat transfer or a BBL. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you 50 sets of before and after pictures. highly experienced surgeons will have many many more like several hundred or thousands of BBL before and after pictures based on having done that many cases. The BBL may not be as popular of a procedure in South Africa and there may not be as many surgeons who have that type of experience like there are in the United States. Still, every community will have surgeons who are better and less talented in general and for specific procedures. The key is to find the provider that’s best for the procedure you’re interested in. To find them patients need to schedule multiple consultations. Compare providers one by one by having these consultations and during consultations review results as described above. simply seeing a handful of preselected pictures which represent typical results is insufficient since they most likely represent the surgeons best results of their career. Surgeons will be apprehensive to show lesser outcomes for a good reason. As a consumer your goal is to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of that provider not what their best results of their career look like. Do this by pushing providers to show as many before and after pictures as they’re willing to and let them know you want to see as many as possible especially patients who have similar body characteristics to your own. Make sure after pictures are always taken at least three months from the date of surgery. Early postoperative pictures can look very impressive it for a fat transfer but do not represent final results by any imagination. At least in the United States there are multiple websites that review physicians. I recommend reading all the reviews on all major physician review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations until you feel quite certain you found the most talented and experienced plastic surgeon. There’s no possible way you’re going to be able to comprehend and understand all the technical aspects of the procedure. I understand anxiety is driving much of your motivation for creating the post. Plastic surgeons are aware of the risk of the BBL when done using older techniques and almost all plastic surgeons have most likely integrated safety recommendations drastically reducing the chance of fat embolism from the procedure. There are still risks of medical complications from this operation but in my opinion what patients should actually be worried about is being left disfigured not ending up with some medical complication. ending up with a poor aesthetic outcome can be devastating and is far more likely than having a medical complication. Must medical complications around him to some degree and there isn’t much in advance you can do to avoid him other than not having surgery. What patients do have control over is the selection of their provider. This is the one single decision that’s important and you have control over it. Choose the right plastic surgeon and everything falls into place. This requires comparing doctor to doctor by having a lot of consultations. Personally I would recommend patients start with at least five consultations and start scheduling more as needed. I do not believe it’s possible to select a skilled Surgeon using the Internet. It requires having in person consultations. Highly talented surgeons tend to be meticulous and detail oriented. This typically shows during the consultation. Those willing to offer detail consultations are also the ones more likely to be detail oriented during surgery. Avoid virtual consultations whenever possible. When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations. Good luck to you, Mats Hagstrom and MD

Answer: Liposuction / bbl perioperative care Hi and welcome to our forum!1. Lipo burns: a rare complication in the hands of a skilled operator caused by allowing the laser cannula (if Vaser) or by a suction cannula if left too long in one position. 2. Fat embolism appears to be caused by injection of fat deeply into the gluteus musculature. In our practice, we use intraoperative ultrasound imaging to visualize the membrane between fat and muscle to prevent deep penetration.3. If your procedure is being performed under general anesthesia, you should have nothing to eat or drink (including apple juice) for a period of at least 8 hours before surgery to prevent aspiration of gastric contents during the procedure. Best wishes...
