If I am taking antidepressants can I still go through with breast implant surgery?

I have been wanting to get breast implants for years. But I have been on antidepressant for about a year now. So I'm just wondering would I have to stop taking the antidepressant?

There shouldn't be any problem with having a breast augmentation and taking antidepressants.  Just make sure to keep your plastic surgeon informed of all medications.  Also, if you are actively seeking treatment with a therapist, inform them of your decision to have the surgery as well.  Good luck!

Oral anti depressants are not an issue with breast surgery. Take your medication the night prior. Advise your surgeon of the medications you are on.

Thank you for your question .  Yes, you can have a breast augmentation surgery while on anti-depressants. If you take your medication in the am and your surgery is in the am, you can take it later the same day and continue your normal medication schedule the day after surgery.

Most patients who are currently on antidepressant medications do not need to stop taking their medications prior to breast augmentation surgery.  While some of the older generation antidepressants could impact the anesthesia used with surgery, the newer generation medications rarely do and the anesthesiologists are very versed in how to manage these interactions.  Of course to be on the safe side, discuss your plans to have breast surgery with your prescribing doctor and also with your plastic surgeon prior to surgery.  Hope this helps you feel better about having breast surgery.
