I had periareolar breast augmentation 8 weeks ago. My incision site is heeling nicely outside but when I touch it I feel a deep and hard lump under my scar incision. I also noticed that when I bend forward my breast looks slightly misshape. It looks like half of my nipple sticking out more and incision site pointing inward. Is this lump going to resolve on its own? Should I start massage it to soften it? I can't see my PS because I am overseas for the next couple months. Please help with any advice.
Answer: Sub areola scar deformity Dear Nataliya, Thanks for submitting your picture, though side view would have been helpful. From what I can in the picture, there is some depression under the areola with areola over hang. It is possible that you had small hematoma in the area that caused significant local inflammation with resulting hardened scar contraction . Since you are overseas, I would recommend conservative approach the can include massaging with Coco butter or Vitamin E twice a day and deep scar stretching massage from side to side , lasting 30 seconds each and repeated 3 time. Do that 3 time a day If it does not improve in 2 months, see your surgeon for possible Kenalog (Cortison) injection 2-3 times and if still no improvement, consider scar revision scar revision. I hope this helps, Dr Widder

Answer: Scars 8 Weeks Post Op Hello,A slightly hard/raised scar can be typical at 8 weeks post op. Scar massage and silicone are often useful for softening and lightening scars throughout the first year. If you cannot see your Plastic Surgeon I recommend that you contact them another way to ask what they recommend for scar care. All the best

Answer: My incision site is hard and lumpy to touch 8 weeks post-op periareolar breast augmentation. What I should do? Thank you for your question and for sharing your photograph. I would recommend reaching out to your surgeon to discuss your results and have appropriate recommendations made to improve upon your current appearance. I think it is reasonable to start scar massage therapy to the area of scar to help soften and relax its current appearance and I am attaching a link below with additional information that you may find useful.

Answer: Incision issue At 6-8 weeks after surgery, the scar is often its firmest and reddest. Massage may help a bit. But I would run it by your surgeon.

Answer: Augmentation incision Hi,it appears that your incision is contracting slightly and this is not uncommon. There can often be a "ridge" that signifies healing even at the deeper levels, but the surface contraction should be addressed. I would definitely start massaging the scar to improve the softness and try and "break-it-up" so to speak. I wouldnt do much more than that until you can see your plastic surgeon. Good luck,
