How long do I keep the tape on my scars after a breast augmentation? (Photo)

I had my augmentation done 12 weeks ago, at my 6 week checkup My surgeon told me to keep using the tape, however he didn’t specify for how long. I am nearly out Of the tape and am wondering if I need to keep going with it at this stage - My insicions have all healed up. . I’m asking here as His office is closed over the Christmas period and he is away (plus I don’t think it warrants a phone call to him while he’s away)

Dear jeewlianik,Thank you for your question. I usually suggest my patients use a silicone based tape for about 3 months, however many of of patients have used it for a longer period of time (often up to a year). Each surgeon has their own guidelines. Your scars will continue to mature and improve for about year or so after surgery. Using the tape will not have a negative impact if you choose to use it for a longer period of time.

I generally advice my patients to tape for six weeks only. Your scar has healed well and is now mature so you can stop using the tape. I would discuss this with your surgeon also.

Every surgeon has a different protocol for scar treatment.I have my patients start a week or so after the tapes have been removed from the surgery.  I ask them to use silicone products only.To see a benefit, it is necessary to use the scar treatment for up to one years time, as the scar healing is ongoing and takes one year before it is complete.Hope that helps.

Dear jewlianik,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Thank you for sharing your question and photograph.  All appears to be healing well but remember that scars will continue to mature for a year or longer after surgery.  I would reach out to your surgeons office when back from holiday and ask their opinion on duration as each practice has their own recommendations.

Congratulations on your breast augmentation. I'm glad it's going so well. If you're using silicone tapes, then the typical instructions is 12 hours per day and for at least 3 months. I recommend taping for 6 weeks then scar massage for a further 6 weeks. Your scar looks great in the photo, you can stop taping now. Great result.

Every plastic surgeon has their own "recipe" for postop scar management. I would call your surgeons office and ask them if it is ok to stop taping the incisions.
