Botox and Breast Augmentation, can I get Botox while I'm in surgery?

should be no problem getting Botox injections while you are under anesthesia
for a breast augmentation. However, this will be up to the individual doctor’s
personal protocols, as not every surgeon will be comfortable combining these
techniques. Trust in a board certified plastic surgeon for your breast
augmentation, and carefully follow their advice, as he/she best knows your
situation and the surgery being performed.

Most plastic surgeons are indeed willing to perform Botox
injections during surgical procedures. Botox is a relatively quick procedure,
but many patients do enjoy the convenience of getting both their surgery
and Botox done in one visit. The results from Botox typically last 3 months.  I recommend contacting your surgeon to discuss

Botox® Cosmetic injections can be done while in surgery, however planned injection sites should be marked prior to anesthesia with the patient in the upright position and while he/she is animating their facial muscles. I recommend that the treated area not be rubbed or manipulated immediately after Botox® Cosmetic injections; I also recommend that you do not lean/bend over for the first few hours post-injection.

Hi momto4tx, thank you for your question.  You can absolutely request Botox to be done at the time of surgery.  Botox typically lasts somewhere between 3-4 months and can take up to about 2 weeks to see it's full results.  Consult with your surgeon before surgery to be evaluated to make sure you are a proper candidate for Botox. I see no problem getting Botox at the end of your breast augmentation surgery. It has to be done at the end of the surgery to reduce the risks of Botox migration. You need to be carefully marked upright before surgery for your injections as you will be lying down for surgery.Good luck. Dr. ALDO 

Thank you for your question. Botox can certainly be performed at the same time as a breast augmentation. Your surgeon will likely mark the areas for botox injections prior to you going under anesthesia. If you are having Allergan breast implants placed you are eligible for a free botox treatment following your surgery (and a friend). Ask your plastic surgeon about the Brilliant Distinctions program. It is possible to do, but not preferred. While your deep vertical line is a good indicator of where you have maximal contraction, ideally Botox is injected with you sitting upright, and actively contracting the muscle group of whatever area you are looking to get injected. Also, the general advice following Botox injection is to not lie down for a few hours, not get a facial massage in the areas injected that day, and not exercise that day. These are to avoid any theoretical diffusion or movement away from the injection site. If you have one line that bothers you, you still would have the area as a whole injected, i.e. the glabella for the vertical lines between the brows. It is not uncommon for newbies to start with one area, though most add other areas later, like the forehead and/or crows feet. Botox starts to work in 2-3 days and can take up to 10 days to reach full effect. Therefore, if you need a touch up it is best to wait a couple weeks so that you don't unnecessarily add product when it isn't fully kicked in yet. Also, Botox lasts 3-6 months, closer to 3 mo if you inject a light amount (and maintain movement), and closer to 6 mo if you fully freeze the area (not my preference, but some patients do like it this way).

Hello, and thanks for your question! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. To answer your question about Botox while you're under anesthesia, this is possible but not ideal. Botox injections are fast and most patients report the pain as a "1" on a "10" point pain scale. Ideally, the patients are upright at the time of injections and remain upright for 4 hours. Ideally, the patients animate their face, making facial expressions that tell the injector the best place for the toxin. Your surgeon can have you animate your face in the pre-op room before you go under anesthesia, and inject you after your surgery before you wake up, but you will be reclined for 24 hours after surgery and this isn't ideal. While it's possible (and done often), I would suggest being awake for your Botox. Maybe you could do it at a post-op visit while under narcotics (you will have a driver), if you're nervous for your first time. Botox lasts 3-4 months so plan on having subsequent injections while awake and unmedicated. Best of luck!

Hello, thank you for your recent question.  Botox could be given during the time of surgery however that would be a surgeon's preference.  Botox is a fast procedure with minimal pain.  Keep in mind Botox will start to take effect about 7 days after the injection and you will need to repeat the treatment 4 months after the last one to maintain your results.
