Hello I am having breast augmentation on January 19th and my lab results came back with a 16.9 hemoglobin, 47.7 hct count and slightly elevated neut abs# of 7.0. I am a healthy 26 year old woman 5'7 145 lbs no obesity issues, can someone tell me if I will be disqualified for my surgery in the state of Florida?

Thanks for your question. I don't believe your doctor will permanently cancel your surgery, but might request an additional medical workup if you do not have a good reason for a higher hematocrit. This might delay your surgery for some weeks. Good luck. Dr. ALDO

Thank you for your question.  The lab values are within a normal range.  Lab values by themselves are not enough to determine if a patient a safe for surgery.  This is a combination of ones history, physical examination, labs and goals of surgery.  Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will make the final determination, but, the values are normal.  Good luck.

You should run these by your operating surgeon before asking around, since the answer will depend on the normal ranges reported from the lab where you had the results done.  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. The state of Florida does not qualify or disqualify anyone for  surgery , so I would not worry about that. I would suggest talking to your plastic surgeon about these labs. They seem a little on the high end of normal. I may suggest that you see your primary care Doctor Who can review these labs and decide if you need to see a specialist. It is most likely that you are just fine. I would also not worry about the breast augmentation. However, I would have someone look at the labs before that date. Best of luck!
