Hi I had a labiaplasty that was unilateral and the hood skin was not removed which led to a disappointing result . Do I have to wait a certain amount of time to have a clitoral hood reduction if it is was not addressed during labiaplasty ?

Answer: How long should I wait to have the hood reduced? Hello mumblesalot123,Looks like you had a left labia minora reduction for asymmetry, but the redundant lateral prepuce on the left side was not addressed. Unfortunately, you still have asymmetry of the labia minora since the right side is now longer and darker than your left side. To obtain natural, youthful, and beautiful results you should wait till you are 3 months out from your previous surgery, but also long enough to find a surgeon experienced in aesthetic vulvar surgery.Best of luck,Oscar A. Answer: Do I have to wait a certain amount of time after a labiaplasty to have a hood reduction? Dear Mumblesalot123, Thank you for writing in with your excellent question and for sharing your photo. Usually 6 months is the recommended time to allow complete healing from the first procedure. From what I can see you have a small amount of left hood skin, and want to be careful not to have too much removed or it will pull to one side, or can affect the look of the transition between the left labia and the hood, which has healed well. There is a small edge of labia on the right that could be taken down for symmetry purposes if it bothers you, otherwise leave it alone. Answer: Wait time between revision surgery Thank you for your question. Although this isn’t necessarily a revision rather a missed opportunity to provide the best outcome, you should wait at least 12 weeks before having surgery in the area. I say this because labiaplasty surgery when performed under Insurance often only address the “one thing” that you complained about without consideration for what’s left behind. After an evaluation with an experienced Labiaplasty surgeon you will likely be recommended to address all areas to provide a balanced appearance. Your labial asymmetry should be addressed along with a Clitoral hood reduction with pexy to achieve your truly desired results. Answer: Is there a certain amount of time after a labiaplasty I have to wait before having a clitorial hood reduction? Thank you for sharing. For revisions or further reduction of tissue in an area that was recently operated on I would typically recommend waiting at least 12 weeks. Even though the clitoral hood was not operated on, you can still have edema in the generalized area from the labiaplasty procedure itself. Allowing the previous incisions to heal fully allows for the surgeon assess and addressing the clitoral hood the best opportunity for a physical exam. This in turn will allow for a better recommendation from a surgical standpoint and likely a better outcome overall.

Answer: Amount of time after a labiaplasty I have to wait before having a clitorial hood reduction? If you are only doing a clitoral hood reduction and not revising your labiaplasty, then I typically do not recommend any delay between procedures. There is no incision on your clitoral hood and therefore no need to wait. However, if you do intend on revising any part of your labiaplasty then waiting at least 4 to 6 months depending on how you are healing is appropriate and recommended.
