After three pregnancies, my varicose veins were very painful - especially after a tough workout or long run - and needed to be fixed. Dr. Abernathy was fantastic! She helped me better understand my vein disease and created a treatment plan designed specifically for me. I felt like my concerns were heard and addressed in a compassionate way, treatment was straightforward and exactly what we had discussed, and the results were better than I could have imagined. The aches and pains are gone and so are the dark purple, squiggly lines down my legs.
Dr. Abernethy listened to my concerns and developed an individualized treatment plan to meet my needs. She provides care in a compassionate manner. My long term vein problems are improving with each visit and I am looking forward to showing off my legs!!!
Great location, very friendly staff and terrific results in a short period of time. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment and Dr. Abernethy was very professional. I highly recommend this physician.
Hello, Thank you for the question. Are you having any leg pain, swelling or cramping? If not, then this is more than likely cosmetic. A fairly easy fix with sclerotherapy. If you have having some symptoms with it, then it may be medical. While not overly concerning, it generally will continue to progress. Move vein clinics will do some sort of cosmetic consultation. This will rule out if it medical and get you a cost to cosmetic sclerotherapy. Vanish - Advanced Vein Treatments in Milwaukee
You can get more bruising and bleeding after sclerotherapy due to a number of factors. I'm assuming you are not taking any aspirin or other blood thinners for medical reasons. It looks like time is healing those injection sites as they are starting to fade. I would give it more time to heal as the highest satisfaction post sclerotherapy has been reported up to 12 weeks after injections. No matter what medication is used on injection, there can be leakage of red blood cells from the veins into the skin causing the discoloration. It is possible the doctor used a larger needle which can cause more bruising or bleeding and slower recovery. I doubt this is permanent as most goes patients see resolve after several months, and if not, you can talk to someone about doing some IPL on the spots that remain.
It is not uncommon to feel achy after sclerotherapy. Generally, this is a side effect of the medication injected into the veins. Your doctor may choose to use a different medication. Most patients feel their symptoms improve after a few days and using Tylenol or Ibuprofen provides enough relief. I generally recommend light exercise such as walking at least 20 minutes a day after sclerotherapy. Because your doctor knows you best, you can ask your doctor if non-strenuous exercise may help relieve your symptoms. There are many types of compression stockings that may be better suited for you. Although many stockings are less expensive and available online, the medical grade stockings measured and fitted for you tend to provide much better comfort and symptom relief. I find that some patients like the leggings, tights, or hosiery instead of the knee or thigh highs, especially during the non-summer months. If your symptoms are not getting better, talk to your doctor about your concerns. We want to make sure you are satisfied with the treatment process and achieve the best results.
Injection sclerotherapy is typically the best treatment for spider veins. Talk to your doctor about the type of medication that will be used as each sclerosant carries its own side effect profile. The most common side effects include urticaria (or hives) that resemble small mosquito bites at the injection sites and causes itching. This goes away within a few hours after the treatment. A little bruising or swelling is also common and temporary. Patients may experience hyperpigmentation (brownish discoloration) but fortunately, most patients notice this fades or goes away over time. Other less common side effects include a condition called superficial thrombophlebitis which is a painful, inflamed area over a segment of a vein treated. This resolves in a couple of weeks and can be relieved with the use of compression stockings and over the counter anti-inflammatories. More serious side effects include blood clots, allergic reactions, skin necrosis and wounds. Your doctor should obtain a complete medical history in order to understand your risks for undergoing a medical procedure like sclerotherapy.
